Job Description
BUGUMIRO FOUNDATION UGANDADIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
Build the Movement Behind an Extraordinary Mission
The Bugumiro Foundation Uganda (BFU) is entering an exciting new chapter. In just five years, Bugumiro has grown from a dream and a vision into a thriving ministry serving the people of Nyamuha, Uganda. Today, Bugumiro operates a school serving more than 300 students, with 14 teachers and 15 staff, along with dormitories, a medical center, dental missions, counseling, spiritual outreach, and initiatives focused on the long-term development of the community.
BFU has also established a strong donor community, raising more than $300,000 in 2025 alone. Building on this momentum, Bugumiro is launching a $1.5 million Capital Campaign to sustain operations, grow organizational capabilities, and finance critical capital projects.
BFU is seeking an entrepreneurial, relationship-oriented and mission-driven Director of Development to lead this campaign while building the development program needed to sustain and expand Bugumiro for generations to come.
This is an opportunity to join an organization with an extraordinary story, a proven donor base and enormous potential-and help transform that story into a movement that will last.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Director of Development will have two primary responsibilities:
Lead the $1.5 Million Capital Campaign by developing and executing the strategy to secure campaign commitments from existing and new donors.
Build Bugumiro's long-term development program by strengthening donor relationships, expanding the donor base, developing major-gift opportunities, and establishing the systems and culture necessary for sustainable fundraising.
The Director will report to Bugumiro's Founder and Executive Director, while also working with the Board of Directors and Campaign Leadership. The Director will be expected to be both a strategic development leader and a hands-on fundraiser.
This is a remote position with some travel required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Capital Campaign & Major Gifts
• Develop and execute the strategy for the $1.5 million Capital Campaign.
• Build upon BFU's existing donor relationships while identifying and cultivating new prospects.
• Develop and manage a prioritized major-gift prospect pipeline.
• Personally cultivate, solicit and steward major donors in partnership with the Founder and Board.
• Develop compelling proposals, presentations and campaign communications.
• Establish campaign goals, timelines, metrics and reporting processes.
• Recruit and equip key donors, Board members and ambassadors to help expand the campaign's reach.
Development Infrastructure
• Strengthen and maintain BFU's donor database/CRM and prospect-management practices.
• Establish effective systems for tracking prospects, donor relationships, solicitations, pledges and follow-up.
• Develop an annual development plan and fundraising calendar.
• Develop strategies for major gifts, annual giving and recurring giving.
• Create meaningful stewardship initiatives including regular acknowledgement and thank you communications, donor communications, and impact reports.
• Establish meaningful fundraising metrics and regularly report results to leadership and the Board.
• Develop strategic relationships; plan and leverage fundraising and cultivation events.
• Identify foundation, corporate and institutional funding opportunities and develop grant relationships.
MEASURES OF SUCCESS
Within the first 18 months, the successful Director will establish and execute a clear strategy for achieving the $1.5 million Capital Campaign goal, playing an instrumental role in moving Bugumiro from an impactful five-year story to a growing philanthropic movement-a community of people who don't simply give to Bugumiro, but see themselves as partners in its mission and future.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is a proven development professional who combines fundraising expertise, entrepreneurial initiative, exceptional relationship-building skills, strong communication skills and a passion for mission.
The candidate should have:
• 5+ years of progressively responsible fundraising/development experience, preferably including major gifts and/or capital campaigns.
• A demonstrated record of securing significant philanthropic gifts.
• Experience developing and managing a donor pipeline.
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience writing funding proposals and case for support statements.
• Confidence and experience personally asking for gifts.
• Experience working with Boards, volunteers and organizational leadership.
• Strong organizational and project-management skills.
• Familiarity with donor databases/CRM systems.
• The ability to work independently and thrive in a growing, entrepreneurial organization.
• A high degree of integrity, discretion and professionalism.
• A genuine passion for serving others and creating lasting human impact.
JOIN THE NEXT CHAPTER
Five years ago, Bugumiro was a dream and a vision. Today, it is transforming the lives of hundreds of children, families, and community members. The next chapter is about creating a movement that can sustain that transformation for generations. Come help build it.
