Location: Robins AFB, Warner Robins, Georgia (Our Lady of the Skies)
Part-time | 17-20 hours per week, including Sunday at 11:00 am

Description:

Roman Catholic Religious Education Coordinator at an Air Force Base (AFB) in Georgia.

Work hours: During the posted business hours totaling 17.5 hours Monday through Friday and 1030-1300 on Sundays (Aug-May). During the RE hiatus (Jun-Jul), all 20 hours will be accomplished Monday through Friday.

The position requires federal background checks and fingerprints. Must obtain a security clearance. Should be a member of a Middle Georgia Roman Catholic Faith Community or willing to relocate to one.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Must support the following services: 1st Reconciliation, 1st Communion, Confirmation, Bishop/First Communion, receptions (Christmas, Easter, Confirmation, and Communion), RCIA, and other retreats and workshops, including planning and attendance.
• Demonstrate professionalism and compassion in your relationships with the base community and parishioners
• Demonstrate a commitment to the Air Force Base Roman Catholic Community (Our Lady of the Skies Catholic Parish) and its Religious Education (RE) Program through active participation and promotion of the said ministry
• Work cohesively in the interfaith environment of the Air Force Chaplaincy Program.
• Recruit, train, and assign all teachers, staff, helpers, substitutes, and students.
• Maintain monthly statistical attendance reports
• Plan and resource a comprehensive plan of religious education for all ages (grades K-8 and High School) represented in the chapel setting through an annual calendar and budget.
o Activities include, but are not limited to: Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), Sacramental Classes for First Reconciliation, First Communion, Confirmation, and other activities related to religious holidays, educational workshops, or assemblies.
• Regularly publicize RE activities and events to the base populations and parish members via various media outlets: newsletters, e-mail, social media (e.g. Facebook), announcements, inserts, flyers, local/base paper, information fairs, and organizational activities/events.
• Attend required chapel meetings such as staff meetings and Catholic Advisory Council meetings.
• Meet as needed with the Roman Catholic Chaplain or designee to coordinate planning and support of the RE program.
• Build and manage the RE library resources, including Audio-Visual equipment, books, media, etc. Accomplish curriculum ordering and distribution.
• Advise the Roman Catholic Chaplain on current trends and the religious communities' needs for RE materials, and ensure materials do not denigrate any religious group.
• Submit and follow up on background checks for all volunteers working with children under 18, and report to the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) of the chapel.
• Must provide VIRTUS training to all volunteers, including teachers, substitutes, aides, helpers, and youth ministers.
• Will arrange and maintain necessary classroom space with other base agencies when more space is needed.
• Shall ensure all facilities are returned to prescribed setup, cleaned, and secured upon departure.
• Shall ensure compliance with all appropriate Federal, State, and Local Laws and requirements and Air Force Instruction that apply to this position, and be accountable for paying any Social Security payments, Federal or Local income taxes, and State Underemployment Insurance premiums for themselves, as well as any individual employed or subcontracted by them to provide services under this contract.
• Personally perform the duties described or coordinate performance by a substitute of equal or higher proficiency in their absence who has been approved in advance by the Roman Catholic Chaplain at least 14 days before the proposed absence.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Serve as a resource person, advisor, coordinator, and at times instructor of all Roman Catholic Religious Education at AFB, GA
• Should be a member of a Middle Georgia Roman Catholic Faith Community or willing to relocate to one
• Shall be in good standing with the Roman Catholic Church (i.e., baptized, confirmed, and if married, married in the Roman Catholic Church)
• Should possess a strong commitment to religious education as a mission of the Church.
• Should be familiar with the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) and have general knowledge of the Roman Catholic Church: its teachings, traditions, and Practices, as well as lectionary- and doctrine-based catechesis.
• Should have 6 years of experience working with and directing a religious education program.
• Should have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree.
• Should have experience in instructing all age groups and public speaking.
• Should have excellent telephone, keyboarding, and customer service skills
• Should have good attention to detail and ability to use a computer with knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Publisher, and MS PowerPoint.
• Should have excellent written and verbal communication and public relations skills.

Performance Objectives

• Advise, coordinate, and instruct Roman Catholic Religious Education with no more than 2 customer complaints per month
• Recruit, train, and assign teachers, staff, helpers, substitutes, and students for Roman Catholic Religious Education with no more than 2 customer complaints per month

Required Security and Background Checks

• Must obtain favorable eligibility from a National Agency Check Inquiries (NACI) and National Agency Check Inquiries Child (CNACI) through the Chapel Security Manager.
• Following Department of Defense Instruction (DODI), each individual working with children under 18 must complete and pass a criminal history background check.
• Installation Record Check.
• FBI fingerprint check
• Local Civilian Law Enforcement check
• In addition to maintaining personal security standards, you will assume high levels of responsibility for ensuring all volunteers choosing to work with/around children are properly vetted by the Chapel's Art of the Possible machine. This may include reaching out to various base agencies, coordinating assistance from base agencies, briefing Chapel and higher-level command teams and leadership, and maintaining records of all volunteer personnel.
• Must accomplish the necessary VIRTUS Protection of God's Children training.
