Job Description

The Director of the Office of the Domestic Church and Integral Human Development provides diocesan leadership in promoting the dignity of the human person and strengthening family life across all stages of life, from conception to natural death. Rooted in Catholic teaching and pastoral accompaniment, the office exists to assist parishes in their ministry to families and individuals by fostering a culture of life, coordinating healing and recovery ministries, and supporting works of mercy that uphold human dignity.
The Director serves as a diocesan resource for pastors and parish leaders, coordinating parish-based pro-life ministry, post-abortion healing and recovery initiatives, young adult outreach, and pastoral care for the elderly, the sick, and the homebound. In collaboration with Catholic Charities Maine, the Office of Lifelong Faith Formation, and other diocesan offices, the Director supports the ongoing formation of families, strengthens the Domestic Church, and advances Catholic Social Teaching and integral human development throughout the Diocese of Portland.
The successful candidate will be an active practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church with a demonstrated commitment to the Church's teaching on life, family, and the dignity of the human person. Additionally, a BA in theology, pastoral ministry, social work or related field is required as well as demonstrated experience in parish, diocesan or nonprofit ministry involving at least one of the areas of this position and a strong knowledge of Catholic Social teaching and the Church's vision of the Domestic Church.
