Job Description
The Catholic Foundation of Maine seeks a faithful, relationship-oriented Director of Development to help advance the mission of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland through philanthropic leadership and donor engagement. Reporting to the CEO of the Catholic Foundation of Maine, this position is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors whose generosity supports Catholic ministries, parishes, schools, and diocesan initiatives throughout Maine. The Director of Development will build and manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, conduct personal visits, develop gift strategies, and partner with donors to align their charitable goals with the mission of the Church.This role offers a unique opportunity to serve the Church by working closely with diocesan leadership, clergy, parish communities, and ministry partners to strengthen a culture of stewardship and philanthropy. The Director will support capital campaigns, special fundraising initiatives, donor events, and grant-related activities while collaborating with the CEO, Director of Planned Giving, and Director of Annual Giving to implement comprehensive development strategies. Success in this position requires a passion for Catholic ministry, exceptional interpersonal skills, and a commitment to building authentic relationships rooted in faith and service.
Qualifications:
• Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing who fully supports the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church.
• Minimum of 5-10 years of progressive fundraising experience, with significant success in major gift development and donor relationship management.
• Demonstrated ability to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors.
• Experience supporting capital campaigns, fundraising initiatives, and donor engagement programs.
• Ability to work effectively with clergy, parish leaders, volunteers, and community stakeholders.
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain attention to detail.
• Bachelor's degree required; CFRE certification or other fundraising credential preferred.
• Ability to travel throughout the Diocese of Portland.
