About Saint Joseph Academy
Saint Joseph Academy (SJA) is an independent, TK-12, classical school faithful to the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church. Our mission is to form vibrant young men and women who are prepared for life and formed for heaven. We offer a traditional learning environment that blends faith and reason, utilizing classical and modern pedagogy to help every student reach their God-given potential.
Position Summary
Saint Joseph Academy is seeking a competent, faith-filled, and academically rigorous Part-Time High School Math Teacher. The ideal candidate will be capable of teaching courses ranging from Algebra I and II to Precalculus and Calculus.
Note on Flexibility: While the ability to teach multiple subjects is valued, candidates who are specialized and available to teach only one of these specific courses are highly encouraged to apply. We are looking for the "right fit" for our community and are willing to structure the part-time schedule around a teacher's expertise in a single subject area.
Beyond technical instruction, the successful candidate will integrate the Classical tradition-emphasizing logical reasoning and the beauty of mathematical order-into the curriculum, helping students see mathematics as a reflection of the Divine Mind.
Primary Responsibilities
Instructional Excellence: Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging lessons in High School Mathematics (Algebra I/II, Precalculus, and/or Calculus) consistent with classical pedagogy.
Faith Integration: Act as a witness to the Gospel. Integrate a Catholic worldview into the study of mathematics, highlighting the harmony between faith and reason.
Classical Method: Utilize teaching methods that respect the "Rhetoric" stage of development, encouraging students to think critically, solve complex problems, and communicate their mathematical reasoning clearly.
Student Assessment: Design and administer authentic assessments to monitor student progress. Provide timely feedback and maintain accurate grading records via the school's LMS (Renweb).
Classroom Management: Maintain a classroom environment of "continual joy of spirit," discipline, and reverence, in accordance with the school's virtue-based disciplinary policies.
Communication: Maintain regular and professional communication with parents regarding student progress and participate in parent-teacher conferences as needed.
Professional Growth: Attend faculty meetings, retreats, and professional development sessions.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Math Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
Faith: A practicing Catholic in good standing who is willing to take an Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium of the Church.
Experience: Previous high school teaching experience is preferred, ideally within a classical or traditional Catholic setting.
Skills: * Mastery of high-level mathematics (up to Calculus).
Ability to differentiate instruction for various learner levels.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
A love for the classical tradition and a desire to form "Saints and Scholars."
