Job Description
Elementary AideSaint Joseph Academy, an independent classical Catholic school (TK-12) in North County San Diego, seeks a dedicated Elementary Aide to support our lower school classrooms. This role assists teachers in nurturing young students (TK-grade 5/6) through joyful, disciplined, faith-filled learning-fostering intellectual curiosity, moral virtues, and love for God in a classical liberal arts setting rooted in Catholic tradition.
Responsibilities:
Support lead teachers in daily classroom activities, including small-group instruction, individualized help, recitation, reading, handwriting, and foundational skills
Assist with classroom management, transitions, and maintaining a positive, orderly environment that reflects Catholic virtues (e.g., kindness, perseverance, respect)
Help implement age-appropriate classical elements: phonics-based reading, basic Latin exposure, virtue integration, songs/recitations, and hands-on exploration
Supervise recess, lunch, arrival/dismissal, and occasional enrichment activities
Prepare materials, organize classroom spaces, and support special needs or differentiated learning as directed
Model Christ-like behavior and participate in school liturgical life (e.g., weekly Mass, prayer) and community events as applicable
Collaborate with faculty and staff in a mission-driven team
Qualifications:
High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree (or progress toward one) preferred, especially in Education, Early Childhood, or related field
Warm, patient demeanor with genuine love for working with elementary-aged children
Commitment to Catholic education and alignment with the school's mission of forming the whole person in faith, virtue, truth, goodness, and beauty
Prior experience in a classroom, childcare, tutoring, or aide role strongly preferred
Strong organizational skills, reliability, and ability to follow directions while showing initiative
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Clear background check and fingerprinting required (per California law and school policy)
Enthusiasm for classical Catholic pedagogy and supporting academic/spiritual excellence
This position is available as part-time (e.g., 15-25 hours/week) or full-time, with hours during the school day (typically 8:00 AM-3:30 PM or similar). Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience and hours; benefits may apply for full-time roles.
