STAFF REPORTER

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT THE BIG PICTURE:

As a Staff Reporter, you will play a key role in delivering timely, accurate, and compelling news that aligns with EWTN's mission. You will assist the team's editors by quickly researching, contacting sources, and writing articles in accordance with ENE's style and mission. Your work will directly support the extraordinary mission of EWTN News by adapting content for audio and video platforms, posting on social media, and optimizing headlines and posts that will reach millions of readers worldwide.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• You will pitch new story ideas, pitch editors, and produce original news by researching topics, contacting relevant sources, conducting interviews, and writing articles.
• You will obtain relevant photos, graphics, and videos to accompany stories for website publication and social media posts.
• You will conduct research, consult experts for background, develop a network of sources and contacts, and conduct interviews virtually and in person, as appropriate.
• You will adapt content to audio or video platforms, complete quick write-ups under short deadlines, and help with weekend writing, editing, and posting when necessary.
• You will post on social media to develop brand identity and audience reach, and collaborate with the broader News team and the EWTN News Digital team to optimize original stories on a variety of social media platforms.

ABOUT YOU:

• You bring a minimum of 2-3 years of prior experience in journalism or communications, with emphasis on newswriting for digital platforms and have earned an BS/BA degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or another relevant field.
• You are an excellent writer with strong news judgement and knowledge of journalistic style and ethics, and demonstrate a meticulous level of attention to detail.
• You are a practicing Catholic with a demonstrated understanding of the Catholic Church and relevant topics and how it relates to EWTN News' Mission, Vision, and Values.
• You stay well-versed in local, national, and international news.
• You have excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members and editors, and easily develop your relationships with sources built on mutual trust.
• You are self-motivated with proven ability to meet deadlines, prioritize appropriately, and multi-task at a high level.
• You are proficient in Microsoft Office and web-based applications, with experience using a web content management system and knowledge of social media platforms for posting and optimization. Intermediate skills in photo editing are strongly preferred.
• You are able to work flexible hours to meet news deadlines as necessary and are willing and able to travel domestically for breaking news and special event coverage.
