Job Description

The Archdiocese of Miami is searching for a Senior Director of the Office of Communications. The ideal candidate is passionate about her/his love for the Catholic Faith and a desire to communicate Gospel values in the context of sharing the message of the Archbishop/Archdiocese of Miami with the Catholic community and the broader south Florida secular community.

The Senior Director of Communications leads the Archdiocese of Miami's communications strategy fully aligned with, and supportive of, the Archbishop's vision. She/he assists the Archbishop, at his direction, in his role of communications within the Archdiocese and nationally. The Senior Director creates, strategizes, manages, directs and supervises media and public relations efforts across a broad spectrum of platforms and stakeholders.

The Senior Director supervises a collaborative team who have expertise in print, electronic and social media and community relations. The Senior Director efficiently develops, executes and oversees the direction of communications for the Archdiocese on behalf of the archbishop, the departments of the Pastoral Center, the parishes and schools and other entities of the Archdiocese.

The Senior Director reports to the Chief Development Officer, works in collaboration with other ministerial and education offices in the Pastoral Center as well as the parishes and schools and other entities of the Archdiocese.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have:
• At least a Masters degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or Public Relations; ten years' experience in communications, media or public relations field. He/she will be a practicing Catholic with knowledge of the Catholic Church, its hierarchy, teachings and traditions
• Excellent oral and written English-language communications skills, including clear and commanding public speaking voice; fluency in Spanish strongly preferred; good understanding of Spanish and Haitian cultures, traditions and attitudes.
• Skill in social perceptiveness and coordinating actions according to the needs of the situation.
• Excellent critical thinking, judgment, problem solving, and decision making skills; effective oral and written communication skills, including public speaking.
• Ability to think quickly in challenging situations and form appropriate and effective communication responses on-the-spot.
• Knowledge of social media; maintain and update skills.
• Knowledge of Catholic Church's parish structure.
• Knowledge of fundamentals of project management
• Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, and search engines; familiarity with editing software and content management systems
• Excellent customer service skills, including ability to professionally deal with people in challenging situations, in person, via phone or email.
• High cultural quotient: Must be able to understand mores and communication methods of different cultures and how to relay messages to those groups effectively.
• Good time management, including ability to manage several projects at the same time.
• Dependability, especially when 24/7 efforts are necessary.
• Must be supportive of the Catholic Church's mission, teachings, beliefs, and traditions.
• Must have a professional demeanor via appearance, attitude, mannerisms, and personality.
