Job Description
The Institute of Catholic Culture seeks qualified candidate applications for the position of Junior Web Developer. This is a full-time, salaried position with medical, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits. Please note that this is a remote position, but qualified candidates should live and work within the United States.We seek a well-organized, self-motivated, dynamic, and disciplined individual to develop and maintain web applications to meet the business needs of the Institute. Working under the direction of the development lead, a junior web developer is responsible for working with team members to understand business needs, designing solutions, and producing efficient, maintainable, high-quality code. Ideal applicants will both respond well to direction and respectful criticism and be capable of working independently. The applicant should possess excellent communication skills, think critically and creatively with attention to detail, and have a high standard of integrity.
The qualified applicant will be a practicing Catholic living in accord with the teachings of the Catholic Church. We seek an individual who shares the vision and passion of the Institute of Catholic Culture for the restoration of authentic Catholic adult education.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
Responsibilities:
• Work with team members to refine project requirements
• Assist with system design
• Estimate and complete assigned development tasks
• Participate in code reviews
• Test, debug, and identify code improvements in our applications
• Collaborate with team members to adhere to, maintain, and contribute to the improvement of development practices
• Create and maintain system documentation
• Assist both internal staff and ICC members by investigating and resolving support tickets
• Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned
• Continue to learn, improve, and expand your own skillset
Qualifications:
• Must have 1+ years of professional web development experience, or a combination of relevant education and published, public repositories (e.g., GitHub) to demonstrate your capabilities
• Strong capability with at least one object-oriented programming language
• Experience with hand coding web applications (This is an engineering position. Applicants who cannot code without the assistance of AI-tools will not be considered)
• Experience deploying web applications
• Experience working with source control (e.g., Git/GitHub)
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple simultaneous projects
• Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines with a positive and professional attitude
• Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with varying levels of direction
Preferred candidates will have:
• Experience with JavaScript development, particularly with front-end frameworks like React or Angular, and/or backend JavaScript programming (e.g., Node/Express)
• Experience with one or more of:
• React or ReactNative is a big bonus
• Building and utilizing web APIs
• JSON and a document-oriented databases (e.g., MongoDB)
• WordPress development
• Mobile (iOS/Android) application development
Interview process:
• An initial interview with the development lead
• (Possibly) A small, independent exercise designed to assess your skills
• A final interview with the hiring team
