Job Description
The Diocese of Rockville Centre is currently seeking a + to work in our offices based in Rockville Centre, NY. This position is full-time Monday-Friday 8:30AM-4:30PM with evening and weekend hours as needed. This position reports to the Bishop of Rockville Centre or his delegate.Position Summary
The Director of Evangelization and Catechesis provides vision, leadership, and oversight for the evangelizing and catechetical mission of the Diocese of Rockville Centre. As a senior leader in diocesan administration, the Director is responsible for advancing Eucharistic evangelization, fostering lifelong faith formation, and strengthening parish and school catechetical programs across Long Island. The Director will also evaluate the evolving needs of the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis, making strategic hires and staffing decisions to effectively implement the diocesan vision.
The Director collaborates closely with the Bishop, clergy, diocesan leadership, and parish and school leaders to cultivate a culture of missionary discipleship. With a strong emphasis on Eucharistic renewal and outreach to inactive Catholics, the Director seeks to proclaim the Gospel with creativity and fidelity, forming communities deeply rooted in Christ and His Church.
Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Vision
•Provide strategic vision and leadership for all evangelization and catechesis efforts across the Diocese.
•Direct and oversee diocesan ministries including Faith Formation, RCIA/OCIA, Marriage Preparation, Family Life, Pro-Life Ministry, Multicultural Ministry, and Youth and Young Adult Ministry.
•Promote Eucharistic evangelization initiatives aimed at deepening devotion to the Eucharist and increasing Mass attendance among inactive Catholics.
•Ensure all programs and policies are theologically sound and consistent with the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Canon Law, and diocesan directives.
•Evaluate the evolving needs of the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis, making strategic hires and staffing decisions to effectively implement the diocesan vision.
Faith Formation & Evangelization
•Direct diocesan-wide initiatives for faith formation of children, youth, adults, and families.
•Set catechetical standards and provide training and diocesan-approved certification programs for catechists and parish leaders.
•Strengthen RCIA/OCIA programs to ensure a pastoral, catechetical, and liturgical process of initiation.
•Develop and support outreach programs designed to re-engage inactive Catholics through creative apologetics (Evangelii Gaudium, 132) and Eucharistic-centered evangelization.
Marriage Preparation & Family Life
•Oversee diocesan marriage preparation and enrichment programs, ensuring fidelity to Catholic teaching on marriage and family life.
•Support family ministries that strengthen the domestic Church.
Pro-Life Ministry
•Lead diocesan pro-life efforts, advocating for the dignity of human life at all stages.
•Organize the diocesan pilgrimage to Washington, DC for the March for Life.
Multicultural Ministry
•Support and develop ministry for diverse cultural communities in the Diocese in collaboration with chaplains and community leaders.
•Foster unity in diversity, celebrating the richness of Catholic faith across cultures.
Youth & Young Adult Ministry
•Direct and coordinate diocesan initiatives for youth and young adults, encouraging their active participation in the life of the Church.
•Support parish youth ministers with leadership training, resources, and evangelization tools.
Administration & Management
•Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of diocesan ministry professionals.
•Manage the department's budget and align expenditures with diocesan mission and priorities.
•Oversee communications and promotion of diocesan initiatives, providing resources and consultation to parish leaders.
Media Evangelization & Collaboration
•Develop evangelization initiatives through digital media, including social media, websites, podcasts, and video platforms.
•Collaborate with diocesan communications staff to promote the Gospel effectively and reach inactive Catholics.
•Partner with pastors, parishes, schools, and other diocesan offices to strengthen local evangelization and catechesis efforts.
Representation & Advocacy
•Represent the Diocese of Rockville Centre at local, regional, and national conferences and workshops related to evangelization and catechesis.
•Serve as a diocesan liaison to Catholic professional organizations in the fields of evangelization and catechesis.
Requirements
•A practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church, living a life consistent with Catholic moral teaching and committed to daily prayer.
•Master's degree in Theology, Catechetics, Evangelization, or a closely related field.
•Minimum of 3-5 years of proven leadership experience in evangelization, catechesis, or parish/diocesan ministry.
•A car is required for driving throughout Long Island as needed.
•Deep knowledge of Catholic teaching on evangelization, catechesis, sacramental theology, and Eucharistic devotion.
•Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and oversee large-scale programs.
•Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and team-building skills.
•Familiarity with modern evangelization methods, including the use of digital platforms.
•Cultural sensitivity and the ability to minister effectively within diverse communities.
•Public and private fidelity to the teachings of the Church as articulated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Code of Canon Law, under the authority of the Diocesan Bishop.
Salary Range: $125,000 - $130,000 depending on experience, qualifications and education.
