Job Description: Elementary ELA & Social Studies TeacherOur Lady of the Snows Catholic Academy
Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Academy is seeking a dedicated, dynamic, and compassionate Elementary ELA & Social Studies Teacher to join our vibrant school community. The ideal candidate will be passionate about inspiring young learners in both English Language Arts and Social Studies while fostering academic excellence and spiritual growth. As part of a small Catholic school, this teacher will collaborate closely with colleagues and actively contribute to our faith-filled, close-knit community.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Development & Instruction: Plan and implement a comprehensive curriculum for both English Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies that is aligned with the New York State Common Core Standards and designed to engage and challenge elementary students.
Differentiation & Individualized Support: Adapt lessons and instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs, learning styles, and abilities of all students, ensuring that every child is provided the opportunity to succeed.
Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues across grade levels to develop integrated lesson plans and projects that promote cross-curricular learning and the spiritual, academic, and social growth of students.
Classroom Management: Establish and maintain a positive, disciplined classroom environment that encourages respect, responsibility, and a passion for learning. Implement strategies to address classroom behavior and promote a productive learning space.
Professional Development: Actively engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices and stay current with educational best practices and curriculum changes.
Grading & Reporting: Responsible for grading assignments, quizzes, tests, and projects, and entering grades consistently in a timely manner. Provide constructive feedback to students and communicate progress with families.
Lesson Planning & Materials: Develop clear and effective weekly lesson plans and identify appropriate instructional materials to enhance student learning in both ELA and Social Studies.
Faith Integration: Be an active participant in our Catholic faith community, incorporating Catholic teachings and values into the curriculum and classroom environment. Encourage students to grow in faith and character.
School Support: Support and contribute to the school's mission, vision, and policies. Collaborate with faculty and staff to create a nurturing, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Communication: Maintain open communication with students, families, and colleagues to ensure the academic and personal growth of each student. Participate in school-wide activities and parent-teacher conferences.
Qualifications
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
Appropriate New York State Department of Education certification for elementary education (ELA and/or Social Studies).
Experience teaching elementary students in ELA and Social Studies (preferred).
Strong knowledge of New York State Common Core standards for English Language Arts and Social Studies.
Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive, engaging learning environment.
Strong collaboration and communication skills.
A commitment to ongoing professional growth and development.
Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
Passion for teaching and a commitment to fostering both academic and spiritual growth in students.
