The Basilica School of St. Mary Star of the Sea, a vibrant Catholic PreK-8 school in beautiful Key West, Florida, seeks a passionate and talented Elementary Music Teacher to join our faculty. This position offers a unique opportunity to cultivate a love of music while supporting the liturgical and spiritual life of our parish-school community.

Position Summary

The Elementary Music Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing an engaging music curriculum for students in grades PreK-8, fostering musical appreciation, creativity, performance skills, and participation in the rich liturgical traditions of the Catholic Church. The successful candidate will inspire students through classroom instruction, musical performances, and school-wide celebrations while contributing positively to the mission of Catholic education.

Compensation

Salary is dependent upon experience, credentials, and employment status (full-time versus after-school/part-time arrangements).

Salary Range: $68,000-$88,000 annually

Essential Responsibilities

- Plan and deliver engaging music instruction for elementary and middle school students.
- Develop age-appropriate lessons in music theory, vocal music, rhythm, movement, and musical appreciation.
- Direct student performances, concerts, and special musical presentations throughout the school year.
- Prepare students for participation in school Masses, liturgical celebrations, and other parish-school events.
- Collaborate with clergy, administration, faculty, and parish musicians to support the liturgical life of the school.
- Foster student confidence, creativity, and a lifelong appreciation for music.
- Maintain a positive, orderly, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and performance opportunities.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events as required.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, Music Ministry, or a related field (master's degree preferred).
- Florida teaching certification or eligibility to obtain certification preferred.
- Experience teaching elementary-age students.
- Strong vocal and/or instrumental proficiency.
- Experience directing choirs, ensembles, or student performances.
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills.

Candidates should possess familiarity with Catholic liturgy and sacred music traditions.
