POSITION DESCRIPTION

Teacher of Humanities and Latin

General Summary

Chesterton Academy of the Sacred Heart is seeking a versatile humanities and Latin teacher whose love of the subject material is matched by their love of teaching and forming high school students in the Catholic faith. The position may be full-time or part-time; please indicate full-time or part-time interest in your cover letter.

Teaching assignments will be selected from all high school grade levels of philosophy, theology, literature, and history, based on the candidate's experience, skills, and interests. Additionally, the position will include two classes in the Latin curriculum, including beginning Latin and an upper-level translation-based course. Many courses at Chesterton Academy of the Sacred Heart are taught in a Socratic-discussion format. The successful candidate must be able to lead a dialectally driven classroom and embrace the integration of subject material throughout the rigorous curriculum.

Teachers are expected to demonstrate superior teaching ability, content excellence, adherence to the Chesterton Academy syllabi, excellent classroom management, promote a joy-filled culture, and assume some oversight of extra-curricular activities.

Faculty at Chesterton Academy also participate in the student House system. The House system is designed to promote character and virtue, leadership, and to help students grow in holiness. Full-time faculty members are required to attend daily Mass with the entire student body and participate in spiritual retreats or other school activities.

The Humanities/Latin Teacher reports directly to the Headmaster for Chesterton Academy of the Sacred Heart. A collaborative relationship between the teacher and the headmaster is paramount.

Required Qualifications:

The candidate must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing and willing to take the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church. Candidates ideally have previous teaching experience, demonstrate excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, and possess a track record of contributing to the vision and mission of an apostolic and educational enterprise. A Bachelor's degree must be completed by time of hire. Position begins August 1, 2024.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Ability to teach an occasional course within the math or science curriculum is an asset.
