Job Description

St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Silver Spring, MD is seeking a full-time coordinator of Social Concerns & Youth Ministry

Responsibilities:
• Under the direction of the Pastor and oversight of Office Manager, this person will manage the Social Ministry of the parish, providing oversight and support to parish social concerns and youth ministries.
• Oversee parish support, including financial and material support, to local non-profits whose mission align with principles of Catholic Social Teaching and priorities of the parish.
• Oversee the parish's involvement in longstanding Sister Parish relationship in collaboration with parish volunteers, strengthening oversight of parish financial support.
• Facilitate service opportunities for parishioners, particularly youth, in social concerns areas, particularly aligned with liturgical calendar.
• Respond to individual requests for social concerns support, utilizing parish resources, as well as local area agency resources.
• Support parish faith formation in principles of Catholic Social Teaching through service projects and education.
• Develop a youth ministry program, seeking to engage high school age youth and middle school age youth in social, service, spirituality, and faith formation activities.
• Engage parishioners to serve as youth mentors/volunteers.
• Communicate social concerns and youth ministry activities to the parish and school communities through various means (bulletin, flocknote, website).

• Highly organized
• Strong written and oral communication skills, competency with digital technology.
• Ability to work across cultures and generations within parish.
• Program management, volunteer engagement.
• Collaborative and creative skills to develop parish ministries.

Job Qualifications:
• Practicing Catholic and interest/knowledge in Catholic Social Teaching
• BA in Theological, Pastoral Ministry, Education, Social Work, or comparable field (MA preferred).
• Experience working with youth in parish or educational setting.
• Available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
• The qualified candidate must be highly organized, demonstrate strong leadership abilities, and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Must be in full communion with the Catholic Church and deeply committed to Catholic doctrine and practice.
