General Purpose: To further the religious and spiritual mission of the Ave Maria Catholic Church and School by providing a variety of maintenance tasks, such as landscape, carpentry, minor electrical, plumbing, and painting at the School, Gym, Brownstein Hall, Dwyer Hall, Church, Rectory, rental property and the entire premises. Provide support in the upkeep and maintenance of the Church facilities. This includes cleaning, event set-up and takedown and securing of facilities. Minor maintenance included.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensure the safety of yourself, the clergy, staff, students, parents, parishioners and visitors by following the safety guidelines at all times
• Stay up to date with Virtus and the Virtus Coordinator at all times
• Perform light maintenance, repairs and special projects as needed, including light electrical (Example: changing light bulbs, replacing light fixtures, ballasts, outlets and switches), carpentry, replacing ceiling tiles, repairing equipment and facility to include plumbing fixtures, plumbing, and making emergency repairs in a timely manner
• Keep Sanctuary and bathrooms cleaned and sanitized between Masses on Saturday and Sunday
• Complete necessary set-up, take-down and cleaning associated with events and functions. This may include wall partitions, tables, chairs, etc. Move and maintain office furniture and equipment when needed.
• Painting/staining to include interior and exterior work when needed.
• Perform demolition during renovation, as required.
• Keep sidewalks free of debris and snow (occasionally before and after hours, as needed)
• Plow snow in parking lot, clear sidewalks, walkways, entrances, basketball courts, and field of snow and ice. Spread ice melt on entrances, sidewalks and walkways. Be available for early arrival for snow removal. (4:00am)
• Clear entryways and walkways to make sure walkways are clear of debris.
• Ensure the sprinkler system is operating properly to include startup in Spring and shutdown in Fall
• Maintain attractive grounds including fertilizing, mow, trim, and rake lawn, plant flowers and bushes, and clear weeds.
• Spray weed kill in areas of weed growth.
• Maintain the sports field by using the equipment provided
• Keep roof and roof drains clear of debris quarterly, or more, as needed.
• Organize janitor's closets, monitor supplies and alert supervisor regarding maintenance of adequate stock. Manages inventory of tools/supplies in good working order.
• Maintain and clean parking lot. Pick up trash around the premises
• Identify and schedule maintenance issues that need repair/attention.
• Oversees contractors in the absence of the Facilities Manager
• Assist/ perform in testing and inspecting the two elevators on a monthly basis.
• Participate in weekly and monthly team and staff meetings.
• Back up to Facilities Manager on alarm calls. Be available for on call on a 24-hour, 7 day a week basis for emergencies and troubleshooting HVAC control system.
• Perform other task and responsibilities assigned by the Pastor, Principal, Facilities Manager and/or Business Manager.
• Regular timely attendance during stated core hours or hours approved by the Pastor and management
• Make sure buildings are secure before leaving for the night
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and to have a complete mobility in building and grounds activities
• Ability to provide own transportation for job-related responsibilities including giving staff and clergy a ride on occasion. Pick up/ drop off equipment, bus, shuttle, Sunday donuts. Have a clean driving record, insurance and registration
• Maintain a basic knowledge of industrial chemicals
• Must be able to work independently, be self-directed, and thorough in completing projects in full
• Find creative solutions for a wide variety of facility needs and provide input to supervisor.
• Perform custodial tasks not provided by contractor.
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Clean up any spills, biohazards and emergency calls from front office.
