Job Description

Are you willing to join an ADVENTURE? We have missionaries from across the country who have answered the call to ministry in some of the most challenging neighborhoods of our country. Our missionaries leave behind many of the comforts of familiar life to invest their hearts into teens living in the inner-city.

Do you have a heart for Jesus, and want to make Him known? Our missionaries are disciples of Christ foremost -- and empowered by that relationship, they step forward to journey alongside teens in their own relationship with Christ. It is in giving that we receive... and it is in giving of ourselves that our missionaries uncover a radical life in His LOVE.

Now Hiring Missionary Team Leads to Start in June 2024!

The Purpose of a Team Lead Missionary:

To introduce inner-city youth to Jesus Christ and his Church through evangelization, outreach, and community building. The VM Missionary life is at its core, relational, as it is friendship and discipleship that are the primary conduits of the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the inner-city youth whom Vagabond Missions is privileged to serve.

Specifically, the Team Lead oversees: Strategy and Management. This position focuses on strategy (dreaming, planning, and implementing, effective ministry in area) and management (building, training, and guiding local team of missionaries).

The Primary Task:

The Team Lead understands and implements Vagabond Missions model of inner-city youth ministry by overseeing, training, and guiding a site-team of two to four other missionaries. With that, the Team Lead is the MODEL MISSIONARY to their peers.

This Vagabond Missions approach as a missionary is based on the understanding that the primary task of youth ministry is to:

- Love and serve youth where they are in life.
- Encourage youth in developing their relationship to God.
- Provide them with opportunities for nurture and growth.
- Invite young people in the sacramental life of the Catholic Church.

Responsibilities:

The Team Lead reports directly to the Area Director for ministry guidance and ultimately to the Ministry Director. The Area Director, in cooperation with the Ministry department, provides an annual evaluation of the Team Lead's performance.

1) Attendance at the following meetings is expected: Weekly Staff
2) Meetings, Outreach Nights, Bible Study/ Worship, Core Team
3) Meetings, and Committee Meetings.
4) Daily Outreach in the city. (schools, parks, etc)
5) Disciple 3-5 young people in ongoing formation.
6) Aide in basic planning of events, errands, and transportation needs.
7) Work in concert with the gifts and talents of other staff members and maintain a teamwork mentality.
8) Fundraising.
9) Assist in logistical needs with missionaries and ministry (Driving ministry vans, helping with pick-ups, drop-offs, and transportation to and from ministry events).

Organizational Relationship and Supervision:

Missionaries report directly to team leaders for ministry guidance as well as mission Area Directors as their primary supervisors. Missionaries are stationed at any one of Vagabond Missions' eight area locations throughout the United States for a minimum, 2 year-long commitment: Pittsburgh (PA), Steubenville (OH), Philadelphia (PA), Greenville (NC), Mobile (AL), Oklahoma City (OK), Wichita (KS), Indianapolis (IN), and Baton Rouge (LA). Final decisions regarding the stationing of missionaries involves discernment of both the preferences of the missionary as well as the ministry needs of Vagabond Missions at the time.

Our Ideal Leader:

1) A leader deeply committed to spreading the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ and inviting others, especially youth, into the life of the Catholic Church.
