Job Description

Aid for Women is seeking a full-time Staff Nurse for our pregnancy care centers. The Staff Nurse is a licensed Registered Nurse, who is dedicated to fulfilling the mission of Aid for Women by providing life-affirming alternatives to abortion. The Staff Nurse provides support and care for clients and maintains professional standards of care.

Founded in 1978, Aid for Women helps thousands of women each year in the Chicago metropolitan area who find themselves facing unexpected pregnancies. Each woman is provided with the emotional, practical and spiritual support that she needs to choose life for her unborn baby and to provide a better future for herself and her family. Our life-affirming services are offered to clients free-of-charge and include: pregnancy tests and ultrasound exams, life-affirming options consultation, pregnancy and parenting mentor program, support groups, residential programs and medical and community referrals.

Position Description | Staff Nurse

Aid for Women seeks to fill the position of Staff Nurse. The Staff Nurse is a licensed Registered Nurse, who is dedicated to fulfilling the mission of Aid for Women by providing life-affirming alternatives to abortion. The Staff Nurse provides support and care for patients and maintains professional standards of care.

Under the general supervision of the Medical Director and Clinic Manager, the Staff Nurse is responsible for a variety of clinic functions: assessing, planning, direct and indirect nursing interventions, evaluating care, organizing, and performing medical services provided by Aid for Women. The Staff Nurse also works in conjunction with physicians, nurses and client advocates to ensure that patients are receiving the best medical, nursing, spiritual and psychosocial care possible.

Essential Qualifications

The Staff Nurse should have at least the following education, experience, and skills:

-Commitment to the mission, vision and values of Aid for Women, which includes a commitment to pro-life and sexual integrity values;
-Holds a current Professional Registered Nurse license in the State of Illinois;
-Holds a current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification
-Ability to comply with the policies and procedures of the clinic
-Dependable, stable and capable of following through on commitments
-Sincere desire to reach out to at-risk patients considering abortion
-Maintains a consistent life-affirming philosophy and would never refer or advise a patient to have an abortion
-Respects confidentiality and upholds privacy per HIPPA
-Exhibits strong interpersonal, spiritual and administrative skills, takes initiative and is flexible
-Physically able to stand for long periods of time, has good eyesight or corrected vision, has steady hands, and has a good bedside manner
-Skilled with current technology and able to learn new skills quickly
-Must obtain education, training and documentation of competency to perform limited obstetric ultrasound exams.

Essential Functions

Nursing Care
-Provides nursing care: assesses patient needs and makes nursing judgments that reflect safe nursing practices
-Maintains accurate records and follows through on physician's orders
-Ensures accurate implementation of physician's orders and advises physician of patient's progress and changes in condition
-Assists physician with exams and treatments, as needed
-Provides education for patient to develop an understanding of her health condition;
-Provides education for patient to develop an understanding of fetal development
-Provides timely follow-up with patients after physician review of charts
-Performs medical services offered in clinic per physician's standing orders

Public Relations
-Represents the clinic in the community as delegated by the Clinic -Manager or Executive Director
-Attends medical conferences that offer professional training and information pertinent to the clinic's practices.

Professional Development
-Maintains professional license;
-Increases knowledge of management, obstetrical, gynecological care and patient's health issues;
-Participates in annual skills refresher and assessment for competency.
