Job Description

Director of Faith Formation

St. John Paul II Catholic High School is seeking the next member of its distinguished faculty. Currently, we are seeking a formation director for the 2024-25 school year, a crucial and pivotal role for the success of the school's core mission. The formation director plans and leads the school's Catholic formation programs, and supports students in their spiritual lives through conversations, example, and schoolwide formation opportunities.

** EXPERIENCE WITH HIGH SCHOOL FORMATION WITHIN A SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT IS PREFERRED, but not required. **

NOTE: An ideal candidate also has the ability to teach theology courses, as needed. A theology teaching candidate needs to have a degree in theology from a Catholic university.

The school seeks to maintain a fully and authentically Catholic environment. Teacher candidates must be practicing Catholics in good standing.

The formation director leads the following programs:

• Solidarity Program: small faith groups for all students
+ Form the group of student Solidarity Leaders to lead the Solidarities (groups of about 15 students that meet 2-3 times a week for human and spiritual formation lessons)
+ Implement the 4 year rotating curriculum of lessons, updating and enhancing as needed
+ Communicate clearly with teachers on upcoming lessons and expectations

• Liturgy
+ Communicate with and schedule priests to celebrate Mass weekly and hear confessions bi-weekly
+ Coordinate Mass each week, including recruiting Mass helpers from Solidarities, training the helpers, and setting up the chapel

• Service
+ Monitor students' service hours in the school information system
+ Post service opportunities on the weekly newsletter
+ Create and implement a 4 year service learning program

• Retreats
+ Coordinate retreats for each grade level each school year, including:
Booking retreat sites and communicating accordingly based on meals, times, etc.
+ Maintaining a budget
+ Planning schedules and all details of the retreat
+ Forming student-based retreat teams
+ Communicating with parents, students, and faculty chaperones
+ Plan and run retreat follow-up sessions for each retreat

• Theology of the Body
+ Using the curriculum from Ruah Woods, implement 4 year curriculum with lessons for each grade level (quarterly lessons for each grade level, split into gender groups)
+ Create pre-work for each lesson, share out with correct grade level, grade and enter into Theology gradebook

• Faculty Formation
+ Plan and coordinate the annual Faculty Retreat at the start of each school year
+ Provide monthly spiritual formation to faculty

• Requirements
+ A Bachelor's Degree or higher in a field relevant to the position (theology, pastoral ministry are examples)
+ Technology Proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, multimedia presentations, and internet use for educational purposes)

• Qualifications
+ Be an active Catholic, with a desire and ability to lead young people by example into a deeper communion with our faith, our Blessed Mother, and her Son, Jesus Christ
+ Have the ability to manage a groups of students, along with student behavior
+ Promptly address student needs through conversations, observations, and formal feedback
+ Have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and co-workers
+ Be a lifelong learner of his/her practice, and have an openness to self-reflect, receive, and implement feedback on improving their teaching skills.
