Position Description

Job Title: Assistant Principal of Student Services

FLSA: Exempt

Job Status: Full Time

Reporting Functions: Reports to Principal; share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with the school principal.

Job Function: Assist the principal with administrative responsibilities to develop and implement the total school program and promote the educational well-being of each student in the school. Administers and implements student attendance and discipline programs. This position also assists the Principal in the supervision and evaluation of instructional and non-instructional staff and school programs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Manages school operations in the absence of the Principal and/or Assistant Principal.

Assists the Principal in providing leadership with teachers and team leaders by integrating the Catholic faith and traditions into the school's culture and educational programs.

Assists the Principal in maintaining a positive school climate and a culture of character within the school.

Monitors staff who handles daily student attendance and administers school attendance policies. Maintain all records for student attendance, tardiness, and discipline following procedures as determined by the student information system.

Researches, develops and implements programs to improve student attendance and discipline.

Implement a student management system that results in positive student behavior.

Collaborate and train school staff in developing techniques for positive classroom management and behavior modification.

Design and develop a discipline policy to ensure that school rules are uniformly observed, and student discipline is appropriate and equitable.

Assists staff with behavior management plans for students with chronic discipline problems.

Communicate all discipline matters of a serious nature to the Office of Education with all completed and required documents.

Coordinates and supervises detention hall, in-school suspension, and extended school programs.

Coordinates and reviews student club activities including prom and homecoming.

Administers discipline to students with school bus referrals.

Supervise the work of the nurse's offices and coordinate students leaving school for health reasons.

Establish dialogue with parents, students, and faculty relative to student discipline problems, attendance problems, and guidance services.

Coordinates and conducts appropriate parent/teacher conferences related to attendance and discipline.

Develops an operational understanding of and coordinates with outside support agencies for student services.

Follow all mandated reporting procedures as designated by the Diocese of Allentown, Office of Youth Protection and Services, and ensure colleagues are aware of such policies and the appropriate actions to take for the students' safety.

Facilitates, utilizes, and coordinates Guidance Counseling Services, Exceptional Student Education, and dropout prevention programs in the identification and remediation of attendance and discipline problems.

Plan, practice, and supervise safe school policies including all drills, evacuations, etc. and keep records of all plans and practices.

Assists the Principal with the development of School Improvement Plans.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements:

Masters Degree in Educational Leadership is preferred.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in school administration.

Other Requirements:

Candidate must be a practicing Catholic in good standing, have a deep knowledge of the Catholic faith, and agree to live by the tenets of the Catholic faith, including in lifestyle and on personal social media.

Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.

Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.

Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart information to a range of clientele and/or media sources.

Knowledge of student support programs and services; ability to plan, assess, and evaluate programs. Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.

Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community as well as fostering a cooperative work environment.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, bend, push, pull, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is continuously interacting with the public, staff and students. The employee frequently must meet multiple demands from several people. The employee must maintain emotional control under stress. May be required, under specific circumstances, to provide physical restraint of students in danger of causing harm to themselves or others.

Working Conditions: Normal school/office environment; Monday through Friday; 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. May be required to work in excess of normal work hours to attend meetings or due to non-routine or emergency situations that may arise.
