SUMMARY: This position arranges for education of children in the shelter

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Provide daily educational services to children in shelter facility

Prepare and implement age, language and development appropriate educational curriculum.

Conduct pre- and post- assessments evaluate student progress.

Develop lesson plans to facilitate learning

Monitor progress of students and use information to adjust teaching strategies

Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development

Promote and maintain positive student behavior by establishing and enforcing clear rules and processes

Prepare required reports on students and activities

Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities

Prepare classroom for class activities

Participate in staff trainings.

Represents the Agency in the community and workplace in a professional and ethical manner.

Demonstrates sensitivity to the service population's cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.

Demonstrates strong interpersonal, decision-making, problem-solving, oral, and written skills.

Utilizes a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

A bachelor's degree; ESL certification/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages certification or other appropriate accrediting body; Credentialed in the State of VA preferred.
