Ministerial Character

Positions employed at St. Louis help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Employees help the Pastor with the vision of the parish. Our vision is to be a shining light of Catholic thought and action, lived out through our parish and school, as an example to all in the Diocese of Austin and the State of Texas, exhibiting integrity in all that we do as we serve Jesus Christ. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his/her ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.

Job Summary

The Director of Music Ministry at St. Louis fulfills the mission of the church by providing organizational and musical support for the pastor within the framework of the parish's philosophy, organization, and policies. The Director of Music Ministry aids the pastor by coordinating the various choir directors, choirs, accompanists, cantors, and music ministry volunteers to ensure quality and uplifting sacred music for Sundays and principal liturgical feasts of the parish's liturgical life. The Director of Music Ministry also aids in the celebration of weekly school liturgies and coordinates with school music staff. Any further employment by the school is to be addressed in other job descriptions. The Music Director has decision-making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with parish policies. The position is hired and evaluated by the pastor.

Essential Duties

Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the Parish
Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese
Maintains confidentiality regarding Parish matters
Communicate with EIM site administrator to ensure all necessary volunteers and music ministry personnel are EIM compliant.
Schedules cantors, accompanists, directors, and volunteers to ensure Sunday coverage.
Coordinates and manages Baylor Student Singer program, ensuring timely communication, formation of singers, and collaboration with parish and school director of operations.
Facilitates healthy communication and coordination between choirs and accompanists.
Ensures that song selection is appropriate to the liturgical celebration and in line pastor's vision
Maintains musical licenses and necessary publication of song selection for TV Mass.
Regularly communicates with Pastor, associate pastor, and key members of staff.
Helps recruit, hire, and supervise paid vocalists, student singers, instrumentalists, accompanists, and cantors
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Knowledge of use of office equipment
Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
Able to work well with others in the school community
Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously
Skill in organizing and relating information in an understandable format
Skill in job appropriate technology
Skill in critical thinking and planning

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor of Music or equivalent training

Experience:

Min 2 years of experience directing choirs

Certifications and Training:

Must submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application for Ministry within the first week of employment, participate in an EIM Basic abuse prevention training workshop within 60 days of submitting a complete Application for Ministry, and maintain EIM compliance during the entire term of employment.
