REPORTS TO: Vice President of Student Life & Dean of Students
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Associate Dean of Students is a vital leader within the Department of Student Life, primarily responsible for fostering formation, character development, and personal growth among Christendom College students. This role also plays a central part in implementing the Student Code of Conduct as outlined in the Student Handbook. The Associate Dean coordinates formation events, provides regular mentorship, offers correction and accountability, and actively participates in College life and events.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Associate Dean of Students supervises the nursing staff and serves as the primary point of contact for contracted counseling services to ensure seamless support for students.
CHIEF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Enforce and promote adherence to the Student Code of Conduct and manage the Disciplinary Conduct Process, including high-level violations, in coordination with the Vice President of Student Life & Dean of Students.
- Develop and implement formation programs promoting student virtue and personal growth, such as the annual Men's Convocation and the "Into the Deep" talk series.
- Collaborate with student leaders to address campus issues and foster a positive environment that aligns with the College's mission of integral formation.
- Maintain an active presence on campus by regularly attending activities and events, including major College functions like Homecoming, Graduation, Christmas Formal, and Spring Formal.
- Identify and coordinate guest speakers to address the student body on topics related to personal formation.
- Work with the Director of Residence Life on Resident Assistant selection and regular mentorship meetings.
- Manage the Associate Dean of Students relevant budget and maintain accurate, confidential records and correspondence related to student conduct cases, disciplinary processes, and formation program participation.
- Coordinate Orientation Weekend and the Welcome Weekend Committee.
- Partner with Residence Directors to schedule and enforce work crew hours, fines, and other necessary sanctions.
- Cultivate working relationships with local authorities and the community regarding off-campus student behavior.
- Respond effectively to student emergency situations.
- Oversee the nurses' clinic and communicate office hours to students.
- Coordinate with and facilitate student access to contracted counseling services.
- Ensure compliance with relevant policies, procedures, professional standards, laws, and national trends.
- Assist the Vice President of Student Life & Dean of Students in the overall administration of the Department of Student Life.

Qualifications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum two years of experience in Student Affairs or a related field.
- Proven ability to present effectively to groups.
- Knowledge of mental health conditions and the ability to manage emergency situations.
- Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and "on-call" assignments.
- Strong ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external constituents.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate students.
- Experience working with young people, particularly in areas of formation and discipline.
- Deep commitment to the character and personal formation of young people, especially integrating the Catholic Faith into individual life choices.
- Clear understanding of the College's mission and how promoting and sustaining a Christian community is essential to this mission.
- Commitment to and support for the Mission of Christendom College and the Magisterium of the Catholic Church.
PHYSICAL / MENTAL / EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to make sound and timely decisions, especially in dynamic or emergency situations.
- Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
