Job Description
This role is an opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven culture, mentor staff, and help foster a workplace that reflects our Catholic values in both leadership and daily operations. The Assistant Manager will manage day-to-day operations, resulting in full compliance with health code, a growing and enthusiastic customer base, a well-trained, effective and motivated staff, delicious and efficiently-prepared products, controlled costs, strong vendor relations, and a clean, organized, well-stocked and well-maintained facility.Hours: This is a 20-25 hour/week position. Additional hours may be available. We are open M-F from 8am-3pm and Sat from 8am-5pm. We are closed on Sundays. Any candidate should be available to work 4-5 weekdays from 9:30-1 and at least every other Saturday from 9-1:30. More Saturdays may be required during busier seasons.
Responsibilities:
-Maintain the cafe's weekly staff schedule, posting at least seven days in advance. Find or provide cover for unforeseen staff shortages due to illness or emergencies.
-Be in daily communication with staff regarding schedule and other work-related needs.
-Help Director of Operations with hiring and onboarding as needed.
-Train staff on all aspects of the job, ensure compliance on following and completing shift lists, review their work, and lead staff meetings when necessary.
-Keep the operation in compliance with the Virginia Department of Health Code and mandates of the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Maintain Health Dept. and ABC records.
-Lead the staff in providing superior customer service.
-Oversee efficient production of food, baked goods, drinks, and meals according to best practices. Work with the Director of Operations to improve these processes and recipes.
-Maintain stock by overseeing staff for grocery runs and Sysco, Webstaurant and Amazon orders. Order drip coffee, espresso, teas, and bread.
-Work with Director of Operations to control payroll, inventory and utility costs.
-Oversee the keeping of a clean, organized, well-maintained facility using the weekly cleaning chart. Keep equipment and tech running smoothly.
-Assist Market Manager with pricing, product placement, inventory, and other gift shop tasks.
-Oversee machine and facility maintenance by staff and service providers.
-Work with baristas and Director of Operations to maintain and add signage (such as for seasonal drinks) and to boost customer engagement and brand visibility.
-Send pics and reels to Director of Operations for social media posting and encourage staff to do the same.
-Let Director of Operations know if more printed menus or rewards cards are needed.
-Work with Director of Operations to keep signage, recipes, recipe cards, inventory lists, cleaning chart, and shift lists up to date.
-Maintain strong vendor relationships. Make sure vendors get checks as necessary.
-Oversee maintenance of cash tip records.
-Oversee keeping cash drawer and change and tips bags neat and orderly.
