Job Description

Position Summary
The Music Director is responsible for planning, coordinating, and leading the music ministry of the parish in a manner that supports the Roman Catholic liturgy and fosters the active participation of the congregation. This individual collaborates closely with the pastor, parish staff, and volunteers to provide music that is prayerful, engaging, and consistent with the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church.

Essential Responsibilities
• Plan and provide music for all weekend Masses, 4 p.m. Saturday, 8:30 a.m. Sunday, 11 a.m. Sunday
• Select music appropriate to the liturgical seasons and readings in consultation with the pastor.
• Serve as accompanist and/or cantor during liturgies, as appropriate.
• Direct and rehearse the parish choir and other volunteer musicians.
• Recruit, train, and encourage volunteer cantors, instrumentalists, and choir members.
• Coordinate music for weddings, funerals, and other sacramental celebrations as requested.
• Maintain the parish music library and ensure compliance with copyright and licensing requirements.
• Care for parish musical instruments and coordinate maintenance or tuning when needed.
• Prepare worship aids or provide music information for parish publications as necessary.
• Attend staff meetings and liturgy planning meetings as requested.
• Foster a welcoming and spiritually enriching music ministry that encourages participation by parishioners of all ages.

Requirements
Qualifications
• Practicing Catholic in good standing, with a thorough understanding of Catholic liturgy and sacred music.
• Proficiency in piano or organ; additional instrumental or vocal skills are desirable.
• Experience directing choirs and working with volunteer musicians.
• Strong vocal ability and effective conducting skills.
• Knowledge of traditional hymns, contemporary Catholic music, and chant is preferred.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and parish volunteers.
