SUMMARY

The Program Operations Director (POD) oversees, coordinates and enhances the logistics, processes, and systems that support national and local events, especially the annual National Ride. This role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring operational expertise, strong leadership, and the ability to manage complex logistics involving many program participants ("missionaries"), volunteers, and partners. A successful POD is a detail-oriented, effective problem-solver, capable of managing multiple projects while improving internal operations and supporting strategic initiatives. The POD collaborates closely with the Missionary Formation Director, the President, the Recruiting and Marketing Director (RMD), and volunteers to ensure events and procedures are smooth, efficient, and align with Biking for Babies' mission and values. This is an exempt, full-time salaried position that reports to the Assistant Director.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
-Leadership for Operations of the National Ride
-National Ride daily ride logistics and route planning and mapping
-2026: 9 concurrent routes spanning multiple states during one week in July
-Oversee new route creation based on organizational strategy
-Create detailed ride itineraries, contingency plans, emergency protocols, and support infrastructure (defining stops, additional POIs on maps) for each route
-Oversee digital map creation (either outsourced or with self-assembled volunteers) using Ride with GPS software, ensuring maps are accurate and adhere to safety standards
-Coordinate with local law enforcement to ensure safety and route approval
-National Ride lodging and event host outreach and stewardship
-Develop outreach tracking protocols and resources, and implement host outreach procedures, securing commitments for each daily stop, event and lodging for each team
-Develop host information collection, dissemination protocols and resources, including but not limited to external data collection forms and internal workflows for staff/volunteers
-Provide year-round communication and stewardship, including executing recruitment strategy to engage hosts in helping recruit missionaries
-Manage and grow volunteer team that supports host outreach
-Partner with staff to oversee procurement and distribution of missionary formation program and National Ride supplies, including but not limited to t-shirts, ride supplies, jerseys, and vehicles
-Partner with staff to eliminate barriers for missionaries and Team Leaders
-Celebration of Life event coordination and execution (concluding events of National Ride)
-Develop details and timelines, manage event budget, secure food and volunteers
-Partner with marketing staff for event promotion and design materials
-Attend one Celebration of Life and participate as the on-site event planner

Other Program Responsibilities
-Operate and maintain the online e-commerce stores in partnership with vendors and RMD
-Manage inventory and shipping of jerseys via vendor-operated online jersey stores
-Utilize project management and logistics software to streamline operations (e.g. Microsoft Suite)
-Maintain accurate documentation for all logistics workflows, checklists, and templates
-Assist with fundraising initiatives as needed (e.g., Amazon Wishlist, grant application materials)
-Ensure programs are fiscally sound in partnership with staff
-Assist in the expansion of Biking for Babies into the western regions of the US
-Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
-A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in operations management
-Proven ability to manage multi-site and complex events
-Experience leading volunteers and cross-functional teams in a mission-driven environment
-Highly organized with advanced planning, scheduling, and problem-solving skills
-Strong interpersonal communication skills to foster relationships with diverse stakeholders
-High emotional intelligence, discretion, and the ability to lead with integrity
-Strategic thinker with attention to detail and a focus on continuous process improvement
-Self-starter with strong organizational and delegation skills
-Cycling experience is helpful, but not necessary

Time Commitment
-40 hours per week, with peak workload from January to mid-July
-Availability for occasional nights and weekends is required
-Attend and actively participate in virtual and in-person meetings as needed
-Travel out of state 1-2 times per quarter, including, but not limited to:
-National Ride (partial or full participation) and Celebration of Life event
-Annual Board and Staff Retreats

COMPENSATION
-Salary in a range of $50,000-$60,000
-Phone/internet partial reimbursement, health insurance reimbursement, Simple IRA
