Physical Education Teacher

Job Description

St. John's Preparatory School is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, and engaging Physical Education teacher to join our faculty immediately for the remainder of the 2026-2027 academic year.

We are looking for an educator who enjoys working with high school students and is passionate about promoting physical fitness, health, wellness, and lifelong healthy habits. The ideal candidate will create a positive, inclusive, and active learning environment where students of all athletic abilities feel encouraged to participate, develop new skills, and build confidence.

Responsibilities

Teach Physical Education classes to students in grades 9-12, incorporating team sports, individual activities, physical fitness, strength training, and wellness.

Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons that encourage student participation, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth.

Promote healthy lifestyles through physical activity, fitness education, and an understanding of overall wellness.

Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen and further develop the school's Physical Education and Health & Wellness curriculum.

Create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment that meets the needs of students with varying abilities and fitness levels.

Assess student progress, maintain accurate records, and communicate expectations clearly.

Build positive relationships with students, families, faculty, and staff.

Participate in faculty meetings, school activities, and professional development opportunities.

Support the mission, values, and Catholic/Vincentian traditions of St. John's Prep.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or a related field required.

New York State teaching certification in Physical Education preferred.

Experience teaching Physical Education at the high school level preferred.

Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to motivate students and develop engaging activities for a wide range of athletic abilities.

Commitment to student wellness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and the overall development of young people.

Willingness to participate in and contribute to the broader school community.
