Job Description
Position SummaryThe Manager of Information Technology is responsible for overseeing, maintaining, and developing the Shrine's technology infrastructure in support of its mission of evangelization, hospitality, and prayer. This role ensures that all technology systems function reliably, securely, and efficiently across the Shrine campus, supporting staff, clergy, pilgrims, and visitors. The Manager of IT serves as both a strategic planner and a hands-on problem solver, providing leadership in technology decisions while offering daily technical support to staff and departments. This position requires technical competence, sound judgment, discretion, and an appreciation for the unique environment of a Marian shrine.
Essential Responsibilities
Technology Infrastructure and Systems
1. Oversee all information technology systems across the Shrine campus, including networks, servers, workstations, printers, phones, and audiovisual systems.
2. Ensure reliable operation of wired and wireless networks in offices, public spaces, retail areas, Pilgrim House, and event venues.
3. Manage system updates, backups, data integrity, and disaster recovery planning.
4. Maintain cybersecurity best practices, including user access control, password management, data protection, and threat prevention.
User Support and Daily Operations
5. Provide timely technical support to Shrine staff, addressing hardware, software, network, and account issues.
6. Train staff on proper use of technology systems and promote good technology habits.
7. Coordinate onboarding and off-boarding of employees from a technology perspective, including account setup, equipment provisioning, and access removal.
Systems Administration and Software Oversight
8. Administer core software systems used by the Shrine, including email platforms, databases, donor and CRM systems, POS systems, and internal tools.
9. Collaborate with Communications, Development, Gift Shop, Hospitality, and Operations to ensure technology supports departmental needs.
10. Evaluate new technology solutions and recommend improvements that align with the Shrine's mission, scale, and budget.
Vendors and Project Management
11. Serve as the primary point of contact for external IT vendors, service providers, and consultants.
12. Manage IT related contracts, licenses, renewals, and service agreements.
13. Plan and oversee technology projects such as system upgrades, campus expansions, and infrastructure improvements.
Mission and Institutional Support
14. Ensure that technology solutions respect the Shrine's sacred environment, supporting reverence, hospitality, and pastoral care.
15. Exercise discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information related to clergy, staff, donors, and pilgrims.
16. Support major Shrine events, feast days, and liturgical celebrations by ensuring reliable technology operations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Demonstrated experience managing IT systems in an organizational or institutional setting.
Strong working knowledge of networks, hardware, operating systems, cloud services, and cybersecurity fundamentals.
Experience supporting multiple departments with varying technical needs.
Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize competing demands.
Willingness to be present on site and respond to urgent issues as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a nonprofit, educational, or mission-driven organization.
Familiarity with CRM systems, donor databases, POS systems, and audiovisual technology.
Experience managing technology across multiple buildings or a large campus.
Understanding of or openness to learning the Catholic faith and the mission of the Shrine.
