Job Description
American Martyrs Parish is seeking a dependable, trustworthy, and hospitable individual to assist with the day-to-day care of the parish rectory, which is home to two priests.The Rectory Household Assistant is responsible for helping maintain a clean, comfortable, welcoming, and well-stocked home for the priests serving the parish. The position combines housekeeping, laundry, grocery shopping and food management, light meal preparation, and general household organization.
Because the rectory is both a private residence for priests and a place of occasional hospitality, the position requires discretion, reliability, flexibility, and respect for the mission of the Catholic Church.
Responsibilities
Housekeeping
• Clean and maintain the common areas of the rectory.
• Clean the kitchen, dining room, living areas, hallways, bathrooms, and other shared spaces.
• Vacuum, sweep, mop, dust, and perform routine household cleaning.
• Empty garbage and recycling.
• Periodically perform deeper cleaning as needed.
• Maintain guest rooms and prepare them for visiting priests or approved guests.
Laundry & Linens
• Wash and maintain household towels, kitchen linens, tablecloths, and other rectory linens.
• Change and launder bed linens as needed.
• Keep the laundry and linen areas clean and organized.
Kitchen, Groceries & Food
• Keep the rectory kitchen clean and orderly.
• Monitor the refrigerator, freezer, and pantry.
• Remove expired food and maintain appropriate food storage.
• Keep basic breakfast foods, beverages, snacks, and simple meal options available for the resident priests.
• Maintain a weekly grocery list in consultation with the priests.
• Purchase groceries or receive and put away grocery deliveries.
• Pick up or receive prepared food from Holy Family Rectory when appropriate.
• Package, label, and store prepared food and leftovers.
• Occasionally prepare simple meals as requested.
Household Supplies
• Monitor paper products, cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, toiletries, kitchen necessities, and other household items.
• Purchase or arrange for replacement supplies as needed and authorized.
• Keep household storage areas neat and organized.
Hospitality
• Help maintain a welcoming and comfortable environment for the priests residing at the rectory.
• Prepare guest rooms when visiting priests are expected.
• Assist with reasonable preparations for occasional rectory guests or priest gatherings.
• Respect the privacy and personal space of the priests residing in the rectory
