PARISH: Our lady of Mount Carmel ParishOFFICE: Parish Center and various parish campuses
FLSA Status: Exempt
JOB TITLE: Director of Worship
Schedule: Schedule varies but includes weekends
Reports to: The Pastor
Supervises: Supervises and evaluates the Worship team employees
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree in Music, Liturgical Studies, Sacred Music or related field.
A Master's degree is preferred.
Lay Ecclesial Ministry in music or worship certification is a plus.
EXPERIENCE:
3 - 5 years' experience directing the music and liturgy in a large parish is preferred.
Experience with building and maintaining a choral program is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
• Extensive knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgical documents and Roman Catholic liturgy is preferred.
• Choral conducting skills.
• Instrumental conducting skills.
• Exceptional skills in organ and piano.
• Administrative skills including, but not limited to, management and supervision, critical thinking, visioning and planning, budgeting and collaboration.
• Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills for collaborating with parish staff, volunteers, and parishioners.
• Strong administrative, scheduling, and digital literacy skills (e.g., parish management software, liturgical planning tools, Google Workspace.
SUMMARY OF JOB:
The Director of Worship shapes and leads the liturgical and musical life of the parish. This role ensures all celebrations are prayerful, reverent, and follow all liturgical guidelines. The Director oversees the planning, execution, and coordination of music and liturgical ministries for all Masses, holy days, funerals, weddings, and special parish celebrations, fostering active participation among the faithful. Leads several choir/musician groups, musicians, and cantors performing at various liturgies and a number of specially designed musical events during the liturgical year. This person also serves as the parish music resource in the areas of religious education, social ministry and evangelization.
ROUTINE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Select and prepare all music for weekend liturgies, Holy Days of Obligation, and sacramental celebrations in alignment with the liturgical calendar.
• Plan and direct a comprehensive parish music program which typically includes choir/musician groups, musicians, and cantors performing at various liturgies and a number of specially designed musical performances during the liturgical year.
• Recruit, train, schedule, and direct the parish choir, cantors, instrumentalists, and youth music ensembles.
• Play organ and piano, conduct and arrange music at various liturgies and a number of specially designed musical events during the liturgical year
• Ability to grow Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and develop the parish in music ministry.
• Oversee the other liturgical ministries, including altar servers, lectors, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, and art and environment committees.
• Be up-to-date on the latest documents and trends.
• Implement the Pastor's understanding of the Church, overall theology and sense of liturgy.
• Ability to work independently and with a team.
• Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and major holidays (Christmas, Holy Week, Easter).
• Be available for special events or specific projects.

• Employees are required to walk and stand and lift and move items weighing 20 pounds or less.
