FUNERAL PLANNING COORDINATOR
Job Description

REPORTS TO: Pastor EFFECTIVE DATE: March 25, 2025
FLSA STATUS: Part-time / On-call SUPERSEDES: July, 2025

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Pastoral Outreach & Funeral Planning Coordinator provides compassionate support and organizational assistance to families in times of loss, ensuring that all funeral and memorial services are conducted with care and in accordance with Catholic traditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serve as the primary contact for grieving families, offering pastoral support and guidance throughout the funeral planning process.
• Collaborate with families to plan funeral services, including the scheduling of Masses and prayers.
• Ensure that all funeral rites and liturgical protocols align with Catholic teachings and parish guidelines.
• Coordinate with priests, deacons, and other clergy members to facilitate the funeral service.
• Oversee the logistics of funeral and memorial services, including music, flowers, and any necessary permits.
• Ensure that church facilities are properly prepared for funeral and memorial services, creating a welcoming and respectful environment.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required by the pastor.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications:
• Solid understanding of Catholic funeral rites, liturgical traditions, and the grieving process.
• Active participation in the Catholic Church and the ability to participate in the full sacramental life of the Church.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills (verbal and written).
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, compassion, and respect when working with grieving families.
• Experience working with diverse parishioners and volunteers in a collaborative, pastoral environment.
• Ability to use computers and systems for communication, scheduling, and record-keeping.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, finger, hear, handle, and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. Lifts and moves items up to 20 pounds.
