Compensation: $60,000 - $65,000
General Summary:
The Operations Manager plans, coordinates, and executes all operations and hospitality efforts at the National Shrine & Mission. This forward-thinking, visually present leader's primary responsibilities include fiscal management, marketing, public relations, partner development, promotion, and managing the operations. The operations manager serves to assist and promote the rich history, culture, and religious significance of the National Shrine & Mission and the community of the faithful, where people gather for spiritual devotion and pilgrimage.
This position is more than occupational but vocational, as it supports and advances the mission of the Diocese of St. Augustine by actively seeking the financial resources and funding opportunities needed to support this sacred place that fosters spiritual renewal and the deepening of faith of all who visit.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops and executes a business plan and detailed operating budget for operations, including the museum, shrine, gift shop, church, and grounds. Works closely with the Rector and Advisory Board on strategic management.
Manages the day-to-day operations and drives overall incremental growth strategies, revenue generation, and brand presence. Strategically works with and motivates the team to identify new markets and groups who would benefit from experiencing the Shrine and Mission.
Works collaboratively with the Office of Development at the Chancery on fundraising strategies, campaigns, and capital development initiatives to support the overall organizational development and revenue objectives.
Responsible for grounds, building maintenance, and special projects. Coordinates with contracted maintenance vendors on an as-needed basis to ensure the established standard is maintained. Will oversee all maintenance team members daily.
Ensures that a high-level of professionalism and hospitality permeates the National Shrine & Mission at every touch-point between employees and visitors.
Develops and implements the highest standards of hiring and training team members to ensure the Shrine and visitor experience is always considered "the standard" for a spiritual experience for pilgrims and visitors.
Provides performance management feedback and goal setting with the team. Promotes a team environment and articulates the purpose and vision with staff, develops goals with each of them, and follows-up to ensure that the mission is accomplished.
Provides leadership and encourages the team to focus on new effective and efficient ways of performing their work, consistently striving for continuous improvement.
Responsible for assisting in organizing and executing events hosted at the Shrine & Mission. This will include working with team members to develop all the event support details, execute the events, and follow up.
Creates all retail purchases and closely monitors inventory levels for gift shop operations and grounds maintenance.
Oversees all Shrine and Mission volunteers. Serves as local Safe Environment Coordinator to ensure all volunteers and employees are properly screened before employment, and they attend the Protecting God's Children workshop.
Serves as local HR Representative of the Shrine and works with diocesan HR professionals at the Chancery.
Formulates and directs all business reports to manage the Shrine & Mission operations effectively, reporting data and information to the Rector and Advisory Board.
Ensures employee compliance with established security, sales, and recordkeeping procedures and practices.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ability to respect, promote, accommodate, and not be in conflict with the mission, moral and social teachings, doctrines, and laws of the Roman Catholic faith.
A Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field is preferred.
Must have at least five (5) years of supervisory and leadership experience. Must have a collaborative style; proven team builder with effective employee-relations skills. Proven ability to lead and motivate teams through recognition, participation and delegation. A leadership style that is approachable, engaging, as well as results and action-oriented.
Strong operations management, planning, and organizational leadership skills, especially in the areas of strategic planning, financial management, change management, conflict resolution, and leadership development.
Important attributes for this position are adventurous, ambitious, assertive, extroverted, enthusiastic, confident, optimistic, persuasive, and the ability to motivate self and others.
Ability to pursue this mission with energy, drive, and a need to produce results, especially in the face of resistance or setbacks. Must be flexible, self-confident, assertive, and persuasive.
Required to have excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills; skilled at articulating the mission and vision of an organization to secure the business.
Must be proficient in English grammar, with excellent research, interpretive, writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
Ability to produce concise reports and recommendations and articulate and inspire commitment to a shared vision.
Must be a goal-oriented and self-motivated individual who can demonstrate accountability, initiative, creativity and focus in a rapidly changing environment. Must be able to organize and prioritize work, be proactive, resolve complex problems, follow through, and simultaneously manage multiple priorities.
Ability to respect and value the cultural richness that makes up the Church and society and strives to celebrate commonalities and differences among various groups.
Must successfully pass the required criminal background check prior to employment and must maintain this clearance throughout employment.
Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
