Job Description
OBJECTIVE: To develop and lead an organization-wide communication plan delivering clear, compelling, and consistent messaging across all RLM platforms. This role collaborates with other RLM Directors to shape public opinion by producing persuasive, on-brand communications and strengthening engagement with media, affiliates, supporters, and the public.RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop and oversee a comprehensive, integrated strategic communications plan for driving messaging across all RLM platforms, including print, digital, and electronic.
2. Host, produce, edit, and publish video podcasts, ensuring content supports RLM messaging, audience growth, and engagement.
3. Identify opportunities to raise the profile of the statewide organization and its affiliates through an aggressive "good news story" approach. Draft, edit, and distribute press releases at the state, regional, and affiliate levels.
4. Draft, edit, distribute, and pitch statements, media advisories, press releases, and op-eds to relevant outlets and reporters.
5. Draft content for the RLM website, social media, and email communications.
6. In conjunction with the RLM President, develop messaging for time-sensitive issues, political action, public policy developments, and organizational initiatives.
7. Build and maintain relationships with reporters, editors, and media outlets.
8. Pitch stories and coordinate media responses and interviews in collaboration with RLM staff and affiliates.
9. Secure interviews for the RLM leadership and draft talking points.
10. Prepare and support leadership, directors, and designated spokespeople for media engagement.
11. Assess current communications tools for improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, English, or a related field.
2. 3+ years of professional experience in communications, media relations, or public affairs in a fast-paced environment.
3. Exceptional writing and editing skills, with demonstrated success placing press releases or opinion content in online media.
4. Strong understanding of media strategy and news cycles.
5. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines and collaborate effectively with other departments.
6. Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive or high-profile issues.
TRAINING & PREPARATION: This individual will receive adequate training upon hire with direction from appropriate advisers and training on RLM projects.
