Job Description
DescriptionThe Liturgist and Music Director is responsible for leading all aspects of vibrant liturgical life at Saint Mary's College. This position guides all aspects of planning liturgies that promote the fully conscious and active participation of the community of faith. The successful candidate will be one with vision and skillset to foster a liturgical identity unique to Saint Mary's that focuses on strengthening beauty in the sacred liturgy, attending to women's experiences and the needs of college students, and building a musically diverse choral repertoire.
The Liturgist and Music Director leads the liturgical planning of Sunday Masses, holy days, and major liturgical celebrations in the life of the College, including Mass of the Holy Spirit, Advent Lessons and Carols, Commencement Mass, and Reunion Masses. This position recruits, develops, and rehearses the liturgical choir, cantors, and instrumentalists, serves as the primary accompanist for Sunday evening 7 pm Masses and other major liturgies on campus, and procures all sound and instrument set ups. The Liturgist and Music Director collaborates closely with the Department of Music and Church of Loretto liturgy staff, as well as other campus constituencies, in the planning of prayer and rituals for the larger campus community. The position maintains and develops the liturgical music library with a focus on building a vibrant and diverse liturgical repertoire and Saint Mary's liturgical identity, creates worship aids, and manages OneLicense music reporting.
The Liturgist and Music Director co-chairs the student Liturgy Commission and exercises direct supervision over one or more student liturgy interns, one or more music ministry interns, and all volunteer sacristans, liturgical ministers, and musicians. This position also has the potential to oversee a Masters of Sacred Music Assistant, dependent on MSM Assistant placements. The Liturgist and Music Director works closely with CFAM team members in providing formation and training that supports students' fully conscious and active participation in liturgy. This position oversees music needs for retreats on and off-campus, as well as regular worship nights on campus. This position supports students through one-on-one spiritual conversations and ministry of presence, where appropriate.
The Liturgist and Music Director works closely with the Director of CFAM and CFAM team for strategic planning and pastoral leadership. The position contributes to the collective work of the Center for Faith, Action and Ministry in an effort to further the mission of Saint Mary's as a Catholic and Holy Cross institution.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in Liturgy and/or Music or other appropriate Theology or Music Degree is required.
Familiarity with Roman Catholic liturgy and other liturgical prayer practices within the tradition.
Proficiency in piano, voice, and conducting.
Three to five years of pastoral experience in a liturgy and music setting is preferred.
Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and expertise in creating worship aids.
Prefer proficiency in choir development, orchestration, Dorico (or other music publishing) software.
