Position Summary

The Basilica School of Saint Mary is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and service-oriented Porter to join our Facilities team. Porter is responsible for helping to maintain a clean, safe, orderly, and welcoming environment for our students, faculty, staff, families, and visitors.The successful candidate will take pride in his or her work, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and understand the importance of maintaining a Catholic school environment in which students can learn, grow, and thrive. Because much of this work takes place while school is in session, the Porter must be attentive to the immediate needs of the school community and able to respond promptly and professionally to changing circumstances throughout the day.This position works closely with the Facilities Manager and other members of the Facilities team to ensure that the school buildings and grounds are properly maintained and prepared for daily operations, school activities, and special events.The Basilica School of Saint Mary is the largest apostolate of the Basilica Parish, serving more than 750 students. Essential Responsibilities

The Porter will:

Clean and maintain classrooms, offices, hallways, stairways, common areas, restrooms, and other assigned areas.
Routinely inspect high-traffic areas and restrooms throughout the school day, addressing cleanliness needs promptly and replenishing supplies as necessary.
Sweep, vacuum, mop, scrub, and otherwise maintain floors and floor surfaces.
Clean and sanitize restrooms, fixtures, and other frequently used surfaces in accordance with established procedures.
Empty trash and recycling containers and transport materials to designated collection and disposal areas.
Clean glass, doors, walls, fixtures, furniture, and other surfaces as needed.
Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and other custodial needs that arise during the school day.
Help maintain the cleanliness and appearance of entrances, common areas, and other highly visible or heavily used portions of the school.
Assist with the setup, breakdown, and resetting of classrooms and other spaces for meetings, assemblies, school activities, athletic events, and special events.
Move furniture, equipment, deliveries, supplies, and other materials as directed.
Monitor school facilities for maintenance, safety, and security concerns and promptly report hazards, damage, needed repairs, or unusual conditions to the Facilities Manager.
Perform minor repairs and basic maintenance tasks appropriate to the position and within the employee's training and experience.
Assist the Facilities team with preventive maintenance, seasonal projects, and other facility needs.
Maintain custodial closets, cleaning equipment, tools, and supplies in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
Properly use, maintain, store, and secure cleaning chemicals, equipment, and other custodial materials.
Follow all school procedures and applicable safety requirements, including procedures governing cleaning products, equipment, emergency situations, and access to school facilities.
Exercise particular care when performing custodial or maintenance work in areas occupied by students.
Maintain professional, courteous, and helpful relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents, contractors, and visitors.
Work cooperatively with the Facilities Manager and other members of the Facilities team, while also carrying out assigned responsibilities independently.
Help ensure that the school remains clean, safe, orderly, and ready to support its educational and Catholic mission each day.
Perform other duties reasonably assigned by the Facilities Manager in support of school operations.
Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

A high school diploma or equivalent.
Previous custodial, commercial cleaning, school, church, institutional, handyman, or facilities experience; relevant experience is strongly preferred.
The ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and function effectively as part of a team.
Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean, orderly, and well-cared-for environment.
The ability to recognize maintenance, cleanliness, and safety concerns and either address them appropriately or report them promptly.
The ability to safely operate common custodial tools and equipment.
The physical ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials, furniture, supplies, and equipment as required by the position.
The ability to stand and walk for extended periods and to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb stairs, and perform other physical tasks throughout the workday.
Dependability, punctuality, discretion, responsibility, and professional conduct.
The ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, faculty, and staff.
The ability to work appropriately and professionally in a school environment with children and to maintain proper professional boundaries at all times.
A willingness to support and respect the Catholic mission and values of The Basilica School of Saint Mary.

Schedule: Full-Time, Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM-6:00 PM

The position requires some flexibility for occasional evening events, special school activities, and other facility needs.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation: $25.00-$27.00 per hour, depending upon experience. Benefits may include health and dental insurance, retirement benefits, paid time off, and other benefits available to eligible employees.
