Job SummaryChesterton Academy - Queen of Martyrs, an independent Classical Catholic high school in Sun Prairie, WI, seeks a dedicated and knowledgeable part-time teacher to instruct:
Art I (2x/week)
Art II (2x/week)
Art III (2x/week)
This role requires a dynamic educator who is passionate about classical education, committed to the Catholic intellectual and artistic tradition, and dedicated to the formation of the whole person-mind, body, and soul. The ideal candidate understands art as a pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty, and seeks to form students not only in artistic skill but in habits of attention, discipline, and reverence.
This position is an opportunity to play a meaningful role in the spiritual and intellectual formation of students through both studio art and art history in a vibrant, faith-filled academic community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional Responsibilities
Studio Art Instruction (all classes could be on one day- Tuesday or Thursday or spread out throughout the week)
Teach Art I, II, and III.
Introduce students to the principles of representative drawing, emphasizing careful and systematic observation of the physical world.
Guide students in translating observation into visual form using a variety of media, including drawing and painting.
Instruct students in calligraphy as a historically significant artistic discipline.
Foster habits of patience, discipline, and attention to detail in artistic practice.
Encourage students to approach art as a form of contemplation and expression of truth and beauty.
Art History Instruction
Teach a chronological survey of art history, beginning with prehistoric art (Paleolithic era) through:
Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia
Minoan and Mycenaean cultures
Classical Greece and Rome
Help students understand the cultural, religious, and historical contexts that shape artistic expression.
Emphasize the development of Western civilization and the role of art as a universal language.
Adhere to the Chesterton Schools Network (CSN) guidelines.
