Job Description

The Director of Liturgy and Sacraments provides leadership in the planning, preparation, and carrying out of all parish liturgies. The Director reports directly to the Parochial Vicar and manages multiple staff/volunteer members. The Director will help lead parishioners "to that full, conscious, and active participation in liturgical celebrations called for by the very nature of the liturgy" (Sacrosanctum Concilium #14).

Essential Job Functions:
• Administer the liturgy and music program including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and timely communication with other liturgical ministers.
• Maintain a liturgical calendar and schedules for liturgical ministers.
• Recruit and train choirs, cantors, and instrumentalists for liturgies.
• Develop a Children's Choir, particularly working with the school.
• Select music for liturgical celebrations including weekends, holy days, and school Masses.
• Provide/coordinate music for weekend liturgies and school Masses.
• Provide/coordinate music for funerals.
• Meet with the bride and groom to coordinate music for weddings.
• Maintain liturgical/musical resources as needed.
• Oversee the maintenance of musical instruments.
• Oversee compliance with copyright laws and licensing procedures.
• Approve non-parish musicians.
• Supervise volunteers who coordinate various liturgical components including lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, sacristans, and altar servers.
• Participate in staff meetings.
• Coordinate periodic calendar meetings.
• Coordinate the liturgical aspects of RCIA, Baptisms, Confirmations, and Marriages.
• Coordinate the setup of four churches for liturgical celebrations throughout the year, and coordinate with art and environment volunteers.

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Needed:
• Liturgical documents of the Church, including the GIRM and other
documents like "Sing to the Lord" and Sacrosanctum Concilium.
• The Liturgical calendar.
• Various genres of Sacred Music and how to implement them.
• Coordinate and supervise musicians in the parish.
• Coordinate the music for weekend liturgies, school Masses, funerals,
weddings, and other major liturgical events.
• Play piano and organ.
• Availability for frequent evening and weekend work.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and build bridges in relationships
• Leading choir(s).
• Working well with other musicians and liturgists.
• Audio, visual, and computer technologies as needed.
• Professional working attitude and collaborative approach.
• Strong verbal and written communications skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Excellent interpersonal relationship skills.
