Position Summary
Bella Health and Wellness is seeking a mission-aligned Director of Finance and Analytics to provide the CEO and leadership team with a clear, accurate, and timely understanding of the organization's ongoing financial performance.
The Director will oversee Bella's outsourced accounting team, which performs accounts payable and month-end accounting. The Director will work closely with that team, participate actively in the monthly close, review the accuracy and completeness of its work, and ensure that financial information is reliable and useful.
This role owns Bella's budgeting and forecasting processes, financial dashboard measures, and service-line cost analysis. The Director will partner with other directors to analyze the operational, clinical, and revenue-cycle data they maintain, identify meaningful trends, and clearly explain what the combined information is showing. The role will also oversee nonprofit and grant reporting and strengthen financial controls related to purchasing, expenses, approvals, payments, and refunds.
Success in this position requires curiosity, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a willingness to first understand Bella's systems and mission. The scope of the role may grow as Bella continues to expand and as the Director develops a strong understanding of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Oversight and Financial Reporting
Oversee Bella's outsourced accounting team and serve as the primary internal contact for its work.
Participate closely in month-end and year-end close, reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, financial statements, supporting schedules, and outstanding items.
Ensure financial reports are accurate, timely, understandable, and consistent across Bella's locations and programs.
Monitor cash flow, revenue, expenses, accounts payable, accounts receivable, restricted funds, and other key financial activity.
Coordinate audit preparation, Form 990 preparation, tax filings, and required financial reporting with outside partners.
Report financial results directly to the CEO and prepare information for the leadership team and Board.
Budgeting and Forecasting
Own and lead Bella's annual operating and capital budgeting process.
Partner with the CEO and department leaders to establish assumptions, department budgets, revenue expectations, expense plans, and organizational targets.
Maintain updated forecasts for revenue, expenses, cash flow, and Bella's mission gap.
Prepare regular budget-to-actual reports, explain significant variances, and follow up with the appropriate leaders.
Help department leaders understand and manage their areas within approved budgets.
Provide financial modeling and analysis for decisions and projects as requested by the CEO.
Dashboard and Collaborative Analysis
Own and maintain the financial components of Bella's KPI dashboard, including revenue, purchasing and expense trends, budget performance, cash flow, and mission-bridge measures.
Work with the COO, Operations Assistant, Director of Administration Services, and other directors who enter and validate data for their respective areas.
Bring financial, operational, clinical, and revenue-cycle data together to identify relationships, emerging trends, risks, and areas requiring attention.
Support Revenue Cycle leadership in data analysis of payer-mix, reimbursement, collection, denial, and revenue-per-visit trends as needed.
Support Operational Leadership in data analysis of patient volume, provider productivity, capacity, vacancy, staffing, and location performance as needed.
Clearly and concisely explain what the data is showing to the CEO and leadership team.
Establish a dependable weekly and monthly reporting cadence for key measures.
Service-Line and Cost Analysis
Develop reporting that shows revenue, direct costs, contribution margin, and allocated overhead by location, clinical service, mission program, and shared organizational function.
Partner with the outsourced accounting team to maintain appropriate classes, cost centers, and consistent methods for allocating shared costs.
Analyze and report service line contributions, which require mission support, and how shared costs affect each location and service line.
Use this analysis to support budgeting, staffing, pricing, fundraising priorities, and resource allocation.
Grants and Nonprofit Reporting
Partner with Mission Advancement to provide grant budgets, spending information, and accurate financial reports for grants and donor-funded programs.
Monitor restricted funds and grant spending, balances, reimbursement needs, and financial reporting requirements.
Support nonprofit reporting by appropriately distinguishing program services, management and general expenses, and fundraising expenses.
Financial Controls and Process Improvement
Review purchasing, corporate credit card, employee expense, reimbursement, payment, and refund processes to ensure appropriate approvals, documentation, and separation of duties.
Oversee financial controls for organizational purchasing accounts, payment platforms, and financial-system access.
Recommend practical improvements that strengthen accountability, efficiency, reporting, and financial stewardship.
Develop and maintain clear financial policies and procedures appropriate for a growing nonprofit healthcare organization.
Administer approved compensation changes and maintain accurate compensation planning information in partnership with the CEO and Human Resources.
