Job Description

Position Summary: Performs and oversees the repair and maintenance of Parish and School facilities.

Primary Responsibilities: (The essential functions/major responsibilities listed are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Responsible for the maintenance of all buildings systems and structures.
Maintains and operates all mechanical systems and general repair work including; a) plumbing, b) electrical, c) heating, cooling and ventilation, d) carpentry, e) floor care, f) security/alarm, and f) sprinkler systems.
Troubleshoots mechanical system failures to determine if an outside contractor is needed.
Prepares and submits purchase orders for approval in a timely manner.
Notifies the Business Manager when major maintenance or repairs are needed.
Ensures that Archdiocesan asbestos guidelines are followed.
Ensures adherence to OSHA safety requirements relating to parish buildings and grounds, including the proper storage and use of hazardous materials.
Maintains the inventory/items of expendable repair and maintenance supplies.
Coordinates the maintenance and repair of all parish and school grounds and related equipment.
Performs limited custodial duties. Ensures proper cleaning of property. Monitors and orders all campus toiletries, janitorial supplies. Keeps janitorial closets and cupboards clean, orderly, and locked at all times.
Coordinates with parish volunteers to perform special projects and on-going tasks.
Collaborates with the Pastor, Business Manager, Principal and/or Parishioners to develop the annual and long-term maintenance and repair plan.
Periodically reviews and evaluates methods and processes used to perform maintenance and repair duties. Revise them as needed.
Schedules, oversees and/or performs seasonal maintenance requirements.
Collaborates with Event Manager and assists with the set up of parish facilities for various scheduled activities.
Monitors, reviews and assists in the development of the "Facilities and Maintenance" annual budget plan.
Participates in the development, review and monitoring of all major facilities and grounds related capital construction projects.
Attends meetings if required.
Performs other appropriate duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Position encounters both recurring work situations and occasional variations and questions. Incumbent operates from specific and definite directions and instructions, but also determines own practices and procedures, performing with moderate supervision.

Contacts are made with others both inside and outside the organization, either by telephone or in person. Contacts frequently contain confidential/sensitive matters necessitating discretion at all times. Contacts are made by both the supervisor's request and on the employee's own initiative.

Understanding of general principles of office operations and procedures. Proficiency with computer, calculator and all basic office equipment, including experience with word processing software. Must be able to prioritize workload to meet demands. Requires excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and organizational skills with ability to meet deadlines. High level of accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to maintain confidentiality. Requires extensive close work and keyboarding.

Work is performed in an office setting. The employee may be required to attend occasional evening meetings, be onsite during weekends for tasks or emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma required, with three to five years of maintenance experience.

At least two years of experience in a parish, pastoral center, or similar setting preferred.

Knowledge and understanding of Church organization and operational procedures is highly desirable.

Proficient in the use and maintenance of custodial equipment and supplies.

Familiarity with OSHA safety requirements related to parish buildings and grounds, including the proper storage and handling of hazardous materials.

Practicing Catholic preferred.

Valid driver's license required.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. Ladder work is required from time to time. Lifts and moves items up to 20 pounds.
