Job Description

Department of Theology - Open rank search for Fall 2026
The Department of Theology of Ave Maria University in Ave Maria, Florida invites applications for a full-time, open rank position in theology to begin in the fall semester of 2026. Individuals with expertise in biblical studies, patristics, and/or moral theology are especially encouraged to apply.

Competitive applicants will be gifted teachers and active both in research and publishing. Applicants should also understand the nature and purpose of a Catholic liberal arts education, be familiar with and committed to the Catholic Church's teaching on the mission of Catholic universities as expressed in Ex corde Ecclesiae, and be willing to apply for the Mandatum. Adherence to the teachings of the Catholic Church are required. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in theology (or related discipline) or S.T.D. at the time of appointment and be prepared to teach core classes in theology as well as more advanced courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The application dossier should include: (1) a letter of application; (2) a CV; (3) a brief statement discussing the applicant's teaching method with evidence of excellence in teaching (official teaching evaluations should be submitted when available); (4) a 1-2 page personal statement in which the applicant explains the contribution he/she can make to a Catholic liberal arts institution that is committed to implementing Ex corde Ecclesiae; and (5) the names and complete contact information of 3 references.

Only complete applications will be considered. Official transcripts are required for faculty appointments and will be requested upon the final decision of the administration and search committee. If you received any graduate degrees from an institution outside the United States, you must provide a foreign course-by-course credential evaluation by an independent evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc.
