Job Description

Are you passionate about defending the pre-born and ready to put your convictions into action? The Dubuque County Right to Life 2027 Summer Internship will equip you to confidently defend the pro-life position and engage your community in meaningful conversations about abortion.

Internship Purpose:

Aimed at permanently changing an entire community's views on abortion, the Dubuque County Right to Life (DCRTL) Summer Internship equips pro-life high school and college students to defend the rights of pre-born babies through comprehensive training and hands-on community outreach.

Throughout the summer, you'll strengthen your understanding of the pro-life position, develop practical advocacy and communication skills, and put what you learn into action throughout the Dubuque County area.

Our goal is to produce a measurable and statistically significant shift in public opinion away from legalized abortion and toward the pro-life position-and interns play an important role in making that happen.

Training & Development:

Before heading into the community, interns will receive comprehensive training designed to strengthen their knowledge of the pro-life position and develop the skills needed to confidently engage others in conversations about abortion.
You'll have the opportunity to:

• Develop a stronger understanding of pro-life apologetics and the case for life
• Meet and interact with leaders of the pro-life movement both nationally and internationally.
• Learn how to thoughtfully and effectively respond to common objections to the pro-life position
• Practice communicating with people who hold a variety of perspectives on abortion
• Receive coaching and feedback from experienced DCRTL staff

Community Outreach:

You'll spend several days each week putting your training into action through hands-on community outreach alongside DCRTL staff, fellow interns, and volunteers.

Outreach methods may include:

• Street outreach
• Door-to-door outreach
• Sidewalk counseling
• Educational mailers
• Other strategic outreach efforts throughout the community

You'll gain real-world experience engaging people from a variety of backgrounds while saving lives by changing hearts and minds on the issue of abortion.

Housing:

DCRTL provides housing for interns throughout the internship, giving you the opportunity to live alongside other interns and become fully immersed in the experience.

Paid Internship & Support Raising:

This is a paid, full-time internship. Interns will work 40 hours per week at $15.00 per hour and receive $4,800 in total pay over the course of the internship.

Because DCRTL operates through donor support, interns will participate in a support-raising process before the internship begins. Each intern will be expected to raise $4,800 in financial support.

• Receive training and coaching from a DCRTL staff member throughout the support-raising process
• Learn how to communicate DCRTL's mission and invite others to support your work
• Applicants who have never raised financial support before are encouraged to apply-we will help you learn the process
• As part of the application process, applicants must provide a list of 35-50 names and phone numbers of people they would be willing to approach about financially supporting their mission of advocating for LIFE
• Apply by November 21 to get $500 towards your support raising goal from DCRTL
• Refer a friend who joins the internship and receive $250 towards your support raising goal for each friend you refer who joins

Internship Dates & Schedule:

The 2027 Summer Internship will take place from June 7 through August 6, 2027.

• In-person internship based in the Dubuque County area, Monday-Friday
• 40 hours per week
• Occasional evenings and weekends may be required and will be scheduled in advance.
