Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY
A faithful, organized, and mission-oriented individual to serve as the Schoenstatt Retreat Center Gift Shop Attendant. This role involves overseeing the daily operations of a gift shop, offering religious articles, sacramental gifts, books, and devotional items that inspire and support the Catholic Faith and the Schoenstatt Movement. A strong retail experience, a working knowledge of Catholic teachings and traditions, and a heart for service is desirable.
The Schoenstatt Retreat Center Gift Shop attendant plays a vital role in evangelization-offering sacred items that foster prayer, deepen devotion, and celebrate the sacraments. This role is more than retail; it is a ministry of presence, hospitality, and faith for all who visit the Schoenstatt retreat center. This position is often the first contact our guests have in our Schoenstatt Retreat Center.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Oversee all aspects of day-to-day operations of the Schoenstatt Retreat Center gift shop
2. Provide knowledgeable and compassionate customer service, assisting guests in finding religious items, sacramental gifts, and devotional materials
3. Order, receive, and manage inventory of merchandise including Bibles, rosaries, statues, prayer cards, medals, books, candles, and liturgical items
4. Ensure merchandise aligns with Catholic teaching and supports Schoenstatt values
5. Coordinate displays and promotions in harmony with the liturgical calendar and Holy Sacraments (Advent, Lent, Easter, Feast Days, Baptism, Holy Communion, Confirmation etc.)
6. Supervise, and train new staff and volunteers working in the shop when needed
7. Maintain a clean, inviting, and reverent atmosphere within the gift shop
8. Monitor and reconcile sales, cash flow, and POS system reports
9. Build relationships with Catholic publishers, suppliers, and artists to ensure meaningful, quality product selection.
10. Stay informed about new Catholic resources, devotions, and trends in faith-based retail
11. Completes other assignments within the scope of this position as requested by the supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
1. High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in theology, ministry, or business a bonus.
2. Familiarity with Catholic doctrine, Schoenstatt Movement, sacraments, feast days, and devotional practices.
3. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
4. Proficient in using retail/POS systems and basic inventory software.
5. Able to work flexible hours including weekends and holy days.
6. Follow Employee Handbook.
7. Organization, accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to perform under time constraints.
8. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
9. Ability to work independently and with others.
10. High level of integrity, creativity, and resourcefulness
11. Competence in handling cash
12. The ability to stand for at least two hours at a time.

PREFERRED QUALITIES:
1. Deep personal devotion and understanding of the Catholic faith and the Schoenstatt Movement
2. Understanding and compatibility with the vision, values and mission of the Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary. Devoted active member of a Roman Catholic community
3. Warm and welcoming demeanor, with a servant's heart
4. Bilingual (e.g., English/Spanish) a plus

WORKING CONDITIONS
Part time, 20-25 hours a week.

ACCOUNTABILITY
The Gift Shop Clerk is directly accountable to the Director - Schoenstatt Retreat Center.
