Job Description
Position Summary: The Human Resources Recruiter supports the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston and its affiliate organizations by managing full-cycle recruitment for diocesan offices, parishes, and schools, ensuring effective sourcing, screening, and onboarding of qualified candidates for non-exempt and exempt roles across all locations.Classification: Exempt (Full Time)
Reports To: Miriam Santos, Director of Human Resources
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
-Coordinate and manage all phases of recruitment, including posting job openings, reviewing applications, prescreening candidates, -interviewing, checking references, and facilitating background checks.
-Maintain, update, and draft hiring request forms, employee collection forms, reference checks, job offer letters, job descriptions and job postings in accordance with diocesan guidelines.
-Source candidates through targeted outreach, networking, and use of appropriate recruiting platforms-including outreach to Catholic universities and relevant professional associations.
-Schedule and conduct candidate interviews (phone, virtual, and in-person) in partnership with hiring managers, providing logistical support as needed.
-Communicate job offers, coordinate pre-employment screening, and handle all onboarding documentation in compliance with diocesan and legal requirements.
-Support hiring managers by providing regular updates on requisition status and candidate pipelines.
-Manage and maintain records of applicant flow, hiring metrics, and required HR compliance documentation (such as I-9 and E-Verify audits).
-Assist with special recruitment projects and HR events as needed (e.g., job fairs, new-employee orientations).
-Respond to hiring-related inquiries from candidates, employees, and managers with professionalism and confidentiality.
-Ensure compliance with state and federal employment regulations, diocesan policies, and Catholic mission values.
-Performs other duties as required or assigned, which meet HR departmental and organizational needs.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
-Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
-Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service abilities.
-Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with applicant tracking or HRIS software preferred.
-Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally.
-Commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church and mission of the diocese.
-Practicing Catholic in good standing.
Education and Experience
-Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business, or related field.
-Minimum 5+ years of recruiting or HR experience, including candidate sourcing and interview coordination.
-Knowledge of Catholic organizations, schools, or nonprofit hiring is a plus.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: The requirements described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, copiers, and telephones. Extended periods working at a computer, conducting phone/video interviews, and attending meetings or recruitment events. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook and Excel. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Valid driver's license required. Ability to meet compliance and documentation deadlines; may require work beyond regular business hours, particularly during periods of high recruitment activity or to meet organizational deadlines. Expected to work as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. This position involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching above shoulders. Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds to transport files or materials. Successful completion of background screening as required by diocesan policy.
