Position Description: Parish Custodian

Position Title: Parish Custodian
Reports to: Pastor

General Description: Maintain and keep the church, the parish center, and office areas clean. Keep the areas surrounding the church clean and tend to the needs of the parish rectory.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
• Sanitize the church, parish offices, and common spaces regularly
• Keep the church clean: restrooms, pews, offices, and adjacent rooms
• Wash and polish the church floor regularly
• Shampoo church rugs and rectory rugs as needed
• Decorate and remove church decorations for seasonal holidays
• Maintain and stock supplies needed for church, offices and parish center
• Restock the necessities in the restrooms of the church and parish center
• Take out the garbage and waste baskets
• Set up and take down tables and chairs as needed in parish center and church
• Spread salt and remove hazardous ice or snow as needed
• Clean and maintain roof drains for church and rectory
• Collaborate with the maintenance worker at the school occasionally helping when needed
• Move furniture, air conditioners, other items in rectory and church as needed
• Make simple repairs in church and rectory
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
• Must be motivated, conscientious to detail and able to work independently
• Driver's license
• Ability to work with others, especially the pastor and parish staff
• Candidates must be able to successfully pass a background check

Education and/or Experience
• High School diploma
• Some experience in painting and repairs
• Able to problem-solve
• Capable of working independently
• Ability to use ladders

Physical Demands:
• Able to climb ladders without a fear of heights
• Capable of lifting up to 60 pounds, walking, standing, reaching, kneeling, and climbing (steps, ladders, scaffolding, etc.)
• Able to work in all types of weather
• Able to shovel snow

Work Time
• 20 hours per week
• Accessible in times of an emergency
• Cover at the school building during summertime and as needed

Compensation:
• This is a part-time position
• Hourly Salary
