Job Description

School Principal

Overall Supervisor: Pastor
Provides work direction to: All school faculty and staff, as designated and determined by the Pastor
FLSA: Non-exempt
Benefits Eligible: Yes

Hours: Full-time, 40-plus hours per week during August and the academic year. Summer schedule in June and July must meet the needs of the school and be approved by the Pastor.

Schedule: Schedule may vary based on school needs; occasional evening or weekend meeting times may be necessary (e.g. marketing/community building events, enrollment events, parish events, School Advisory Council meetings, extra-curricular events, etc.)

JOB PURPOSE: To provide leadership of Transfiguration Catholic School in the core areas of Catholic identity, academic excellence, and organization leadership by enrolling students so that the school is socially and financially stable, soliciting donors and sponsors to support the work of the school, and finally recruiting, developing, and leading an excellent staff. Transfiguration's School Principal must also be an ambassador for Transfiguration and execute a high level of respect and love for all students, families, staff, and parishioners. All activities shall support the mission and philosophy of Transfiguration Church of Oakdale:
To lead all those in the East Metro to Christ, the Source and Summit of our daily and eternal lives.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Leadership
• Provide a credible witness of the Catholic faith by regular and active participation in the sacraments and the public life of prayer in the Catholic Church that fosters a conversion to the Holy Trinity.
• Display a passion for evangelizing and promoting the Catholic faith to cultivate a school culture of authentic discipleship.
• Encourage parental input and involvement as the primary educators of their children.
• Assist the Pastor in choosing and evaluation curriculum in all phases of the instructional program. This includes setting academic achievement goals, analyzing results, and facilitating the curriculum review and development cycle.
• Articulate a clear vision for Transfiguration school in alignment with the Pastor's vision for the parish that accurately reflects the school as the largest ministry of the parish.
• Collaborate with parish staff to encourage the school's integration into the overall life of the parish.
• Assemble the School Advisory Council and provide information and agenda items for their collaboration in planning and advancing the mission of the school. Ensure the School Advisory Council is following its by-laws.

2. Management and Administration
• Oversee the day-to-day administration of the school, including (but not limited to) faculty and staff management, daily schedules, health and safety requirements, food services, and transportation.
• Assure adherence to Archdiocesan, federal, state, and local school district regulations insofar as they do not infringe upon Catholic doctrine.
• In collaboration with the Pastor, recruit, interview, hire, and assign school faculty and staff in accord with emission of Catholic education and the policies and by-laws of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis and Transfiguration.
• Provide proper onboarding and orientation to all new school faculty and staff. Work with the Director of Finance and Operations to ensure all activities meet human resource and legal requirements.
• Conduct and document annual performance evaluations of all school faculty and staff. In collaboration with the Pastor and Director of Finance and Operations, address performance issues in a timely manner and in accord with the Transfiguration employee handbook's policies.
• Maintain Transfiguration School Policy Handbook and Parent and Student Handbook. Ensure that the policies do not conflict with existing Transfiguration policies and that they fulfill all Archdiocesan, federal, state, and local school district regulations insofar as they do not infringe upon Catholic doctrine.
• In collaboration with the Dean of Students, maintain accreditation status and all process and requirements set forth by the accrediting institution.
• Support the Dean of Students in the management of his/her responsibilities, especially in addressing student behavioral issues and communications to parents on disciplinary matters
• Work in coordination with the Pastor and Director of Finance and Operations to prepare and monitor the school budget and plan compensation for school faculty and staff.
• Recruit and supervise volunteers to run and build the school's extra-curricular activities (e.g. sports teams, club groups, etc.) so that Transfiguration offers families a multi-faceted program that engages the full person of each student.
• With school administrative staff, ensure that all volunteers who assist in the school receive adequate support and are acknowledged for their efforts.
• Work with the Parish Life Coordinator to ensure that all safe environment standards as outlined by Archdiocesan and Transfiguration handbook are followed. Confirm that the Parish Life Coordinator is properly maintaining the records for employees and volunteers so that we are in full compliance on these matters.
• Develop and implement a fundraising strategy for inclusion in the annual budget and to support school operations and expansion.

3. Communications, Marketing, and Enrollment Management
• Develop and implement a marketing plan, in collaboration with the Pastor and the Marketing & Enrollment Coordinator, to maximize student enrollment and ensure long-term stability and growth.
• Responsible for annual review of enrollment policies and collaborating with applicable staff to update and maintain the enrollment management system. Ensure that admissions and enrollment are open no later than January for the next academic year.
• Communicate effectively to the school, parish, and local community to engage and inform stakeholders about the life of the school. Utilize a variety of platforms (written, digital, face-to-face) to maximize engagement. Regularly review and update school website in collaboration with the parish's Evangelization Coordinator.
• Collaborate with the Pastor, Evangelization Coordinator, Parish Life Coordinator, and other applicable staff to maintain and execute a communications plan.
• In collaboration with the Marketing & Enrollment Coordinator, provide content weekly for the parish's bulletin to highlight and promote awareness of the school to the larger Transfiguration parish community.
• Communicate with staff on a regular basis through frequent and effective messages, faculty meetings, and conferences.
• Communicate to school families relevant information that will impact their planning and schedules (e.g. school closures/delays, lockdown drills, etc.) as well as items that impact the life of the school.
• Support the Dean of Students
• Be available to staff, students, and parents to facilitate and problem-solve concerns that arise, as well as to solicit ideas for the furtherance of the school's mission.
• Foster and build an alumni database and community to ensure continual engagement with and support of the school.
• Conduct exit interviews of families who unenroll their children from the school to learn what Transfiguration can do to keep students in our school; work in such cases to help the family discern to remain at Transfiguration.
• Create and review surveys to gauge the culture and talents of the school.

4. Personal Growth and Other Responsibilities
• Participate in Archdiocesan programming and other opportunities (e.g. CSCOE) for professional growth.
• Maintain or be actively pursuing a State of Minnesota principal license through continuing education or meet Archdiocesan professional standards for a Catholic School Principal.
• Perform other responsibilities identified as needed by the employee and approved or assigned by the Pastor.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION
Qualifications:
1. To have and maintain a current Minnesota administrator license; or satisfy the MNSAA and Archdiocesan standards for Catholic School Principal.
2. Demonstrate an understanding and acceptance of Catholic doctrine, along with a commitment to the mission of Transfiguration.
3. Experience in school administration with a history of growing enrollment and effective fundraising.
4. Ability to receive work direction from supervisors and implement their vision for the good of the school.
5. Ability to communicate effectively with Transfiguration students, parents, staff, administration, parishioners, and broader community as pertains to the job requirements.
6. Ability to collaborate with other employees and understand the school is a mission of the parish.
7. Computer skills that include the use of Microsoft products, Google applications, student grading and management software, digital classroom tools, email, video conferencing, and other programs or technology essential to this role at Transfiguration Catholic School.
8. Successfully complete the Essential 3 requirements - Virtus training, background check, and Code of Conduct.

Mental & Physical Demands:
1. Ability to plan, organize, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
2. Possess a clear understanding of the English language. Able to speak and write effectively.
3. Work 40+ hours per week.
4. Able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
5. Able to participate in occasional evening and weekend meetings, events or Masses.
6. Able to lift up to 25 lbs. (Books, office materials) using proper techniques.
7. Able to operate keyboard in safe and proficient manner.
