Wage - $45,000-$80,000 (The wage range for this position is prorated for the amount of time the substitute teacher is needed, based on the annual salary of a full-time teacher).

The Role:
St. John Paul the Great is seeking a full-time long-term sub to fill in for a current theology teacher who is going on paternity leave. The long-term sub should be prepared to begin as early as May 7th, 2026 and will fill the position for the remainder of the year concluding on June 2nd. The substitute teacher will take on three sections of freshman theology and two sections of junior theology.
Candidate Profile & Responsibilities:
A full-time faculty member must be a Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church, who assents to the Church's teachings on all matters, with particular care for those concerning the nature of the human person, sexual ethics and sexual identity. The candidate shall possess a zeal for the Lord, living the faith in all aspects of life, with an ability to interact comfortably and authoritatively with students in a variety of settings and with collegiality with other JPG faculty and staff.
This is a full-time position requiring a consistent commitment from 7:45 am-3:15 pm ("the school day") when school is in session.
In terms of the performance and personal competencies expected for the position, we highlight the following:
-Bachelor's degree required in field pertinent to the teaching course load or other equivalent background
-Strong skills related to classroom management, and implementing a pre-made scope and sequence.
-Competency in organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and communication
-An engaging classroom presence that invites students to experience wonder, engage in discussion, and encounter the truth through discussion, inquiry, and excellent direct instruction.
-A familiarity with pedagogy and classroom practice grounded in the classical liberal arts tradition, or a strong willingness to learn
-A desire to encounter students as persons, to invest in their growth and development in and out of the classroom, and to provide a compelling witness of joyful discipleship at all times.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Teach two classes of junior theology (morality) and three classes of freshman theology (Salvation History)
-Deliver compelling and robust instruction in the given discipline, drawing consistently upon tenets of classical liberal arts pedagogy.
-Conduct class time with high expectations of student participation, behavior, and quality of work.
-Maintain: organized materials; complete course overviews, unit plans, and daily lesson plans for each class; current and complete records of student work; up-to-date information about class assignments in FACTS, and timely communication with students, parents, colleagues, and administration.
-Build strong relationships with students that encourage students to strive for academic excellence, deepen their relationship with Christ, discern the presence of Christ in all things, and grow in virtue.
