Job Description

St. Therese School, a PK-Grade 8 Catholic Elementary School located in Succasunna, NJ, is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and service-oriented PT Daytime School Custodian to help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate enjoys working independently, takes pride in their work, and supports the mission of Catholic education.

Part - Time | Monday - Friday | 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (25 hours/week) - $17/Hour

Start Date: 9/1/2026

Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Principal, and the Director of Facilities performs general cleaning and maintenance in school buildings and grounds; maintains equipment in functional condition; and provides cleaning and custodial assistance to students, teachers, visitors and others as necessary. The School Custodian is responsible for the daily cleanliness, maintenance, and operational needs of the school during the school day. This position supports lunch operations, performs routine cleaning and minor maintenance, responds to custodial needs as they arise, and helps ensure the school remains clean, safe, and well-maintained.

Performs related duties and general maintenance work as required.

Additional Duties:
Performs general cleaning, and repair work, particularly during school vacations.
Assists parents and other visitors to school buildings with special events and programs.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:
-Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.
-Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
High School Diploma or completion of sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position.
-Previous experience in building and cleaning maintenance desirable.
-Ability to perform physical work, such as lifting, bending, climbing stairs, standing for extended periods, and including lifting up to 50 pounds.
-Strong organizational and time-management skills.
-Strong attention to detail and reliability
-Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and vendors.
-NJ Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide own transportation.
-Must successfully complete all required diocesan background checks and Safe Environment requirements.
