Job Description

The Child Protection Specialist - Ethnic Communities will work with identified parishes and schools throughout the diocese to assist them in meeting the child protection requirements. While the individual may work with any assigned parish, s/he will specialize in meeting the specific needs of those parishes with one or more identified ethnic community, providing and/or arranging for culturally and linguistically specific assistance as needed. The position is full time and will
report to the Director of Pastoral Support and Child Protection.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Obtain/maintain credentialling as VIRTUS PGC Facilitator and provide trainings once or twice a month in various locations throughout the diocese.
Work with the Assistant Director of Pastoral Support and Child Protection to help recruit and support facilitators from various ethnic communities worshiping at our parishes.
Partner with parishes to help them understand and fully implement all child protection requirements.
Keep timely and accurate records and assist parishes in setting up and maintaining effective tracking.
Partner with pastors, parish staff, and people here at the pastoral center to help address the concerns raised by the immigrant populations in our parishes as they relate to background screening, safe environment training for adults and youth, and mandated reporting.
Participate as a member of the Pastoral Support and Child Protection team, maintaining a knowledge base on all of the work of the office in order to effectively review all aspects with parishes, schools, and others in the community and helping with overall functions such as the annual audits.
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the USCCB Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, the Child Protection Policy for the Archdiocese of Boston, and the Mandated Reporting Laws of the State of Massachusetts.

Strong relationship and communication skills
Strong problem solving skills
Strong organizational and documentation skills
Ability to communicate fluently in Spanish and English is required. Additional languages are a plus including Portuguese, French, Vietnamese, Korean, Chinese, ASL.
Ability to partner with others on the team, others in the building, and those in parishes and schools.
Working understanding of the functioning of a Catholic parish in the Archdiocese of Boston.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
This is an onsite job. It is not hybrid. It requires onsite work at the Pastoral Center and at various parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Boston.
Valid drivers license, auto insurance, and access to a vehicle is required.
Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE ELEMENTS:
Ability to use a computer keyboard for up to 8 hours/day.
Ability to sit for up to 8 hours/day.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
