Job Description
High School Math TeacherSaint Joseph Academy, an independent classical Catholic school (TK-12) in North County San Diego, seeks a dedicated Part-Time High School Math Teacher. This role supports our Christ-centered classical curriculum by teaching mathematics as part of the liberal arts tradition-cultivating logical reasoning, wonder at the order of creation, and appreciation for truth, beauty, and goodness as revealed in patterns, structure, and the quadrivium (arithmetic, geometry, and beyond).
Responsibilities:
Teach high school mathematics courses (e.g., Algebra I/II, Geometry, Precalculus, and/or Calculus) to grades 9-12, using rigorous, concept-driven methods that emphasize problem-solving, deductive reasoning, and real-world applications
Foster critical thinking, mathematical communication, and intellectual virtues through engaging lessons, discussions, and collaborative problem-solving
Integrate Catholic worldview and faith formation into math instruction, highlighting God's ordered creation and the pursuit of truth
Differentiate instruction to challenge students at various levels while building firm foundations in facts, logic, and conceptual understanding
Collaborate with faculty in a mission-driven, small-class environment
Assess student progress thoughtfully (e.g., through exams, projects, and reasoning-based evaluations) and provide constructive feedback
Participate in school liturgical life, faculty formation, and occasional extracurricular activities as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required (Master's preferred) in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or related field
Strong content knowledge in high school mathematics, with enthusiasm for classical approaches
Commitment to Catholic education and the school's mission of forming students intellectually, morally, and spiritually
Prior teaching experience preferred, especially in classical or faith-based settings; credential or equivalent experience a plus
Excellent classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills
Passion for inspiring wonder and precision in young minds through math
This part-time position (approximately 10-20 hours/week, depending on course load and schedule during school hours) offers competitive hourly compensation commensurate with experience, plus the opportunity to contribute to a vibrant, faith-centered classical community focused on academic excellence and virtue.
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and references to delatorreb@sjaclassical.org. For more about the school, visit sjaclassical.org.
