Job Description

Marin Catholic currently has an opening for a full-time Assistant Dean of Students.

Position begins August 1, 2026.

Position Summary
The Assistant Dean of Students walks alongside our students in the daily work of forming a safe, joyful, and Christ-centered school community. Working with the Dean of Students and under the direction of the Assistant Principal of Student Affairs and Operations, the Assistant Dean shares responsibility across the full range of Dean functions: student formation and conduct, attendance, dress code, daily presence on campus, student support, and school-sponsored events. The Assistant Dean is a trusted point of contact for students, parents, and faculty, helping ensure that the policies and spirit of the Marin Catholic Parent/Student Handbook are applied with both consistency and care.

As a co-educational Catholic school, Marin Catholic is committed to forming young men and young women of virtue. The Assistant Dean of Students will have particular focus on accompanying our female students through the unique joys and challenges of adolescence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
-Student Formation, Conduct, and Discipline
-Partner with the Dean of Students to uphold the Code of Behavior and to apply expectations consistently, fairly, and with concern for each student's growth
-Meet with students referred for behavioral concerns; listen carefully, document incidents, assign appropriate consequences, and communicate outcomes to parents and guardians
-Collaborate with the Director of Counseling and the Therapeutic Counseling team on student life matters, including those particular to adolescent young women.
-Help students understand and meet the dress code, offering corrections throughout the day in a manner that preserves dignity
-Support the Dean of Students in preparing for and conducting Disciplinary Review Boards (DRBs).
-Address technology-related concerns (cell phones, smartwatches, earbuds, school account use) per handbook policy

Attendance, Tardies, and Truancy
-Work with the Attendance Secretary to monitor daily attendance and identify patterns that may indicate a student needs support.
-Follow up on unexcused absences and connect with families when concerns arise.
-Assist in administering the attendance system.

Daily Presence and School Events
-Be a visible, welcoming presence on campus during arrival, dismissal, breaks, lunch, and passing periods.
-Help shepherd students through school-sponsored events, including liturgies, assemblies, rallies, dances (Homecoming, Prom, Senior Ball), and special days.
-Uphold event-related expectations, including dance norms and the Archdiocesan Junior Prom/Senior Ball contract.
-Participate in emergency response, safety drills, and campus crisis protocols.

Administrative and Communication Duties
-Maintain accurate, confidential records of student interactions, incidents, attendance cases, and parent communications.
-Draft and send communications to parents and guardians regarding attendance, behavior, and contract follow-up.
-Help prepare data and reports for the Dean, Assistant Principal, and Principal as requested.
-Participate in faculty meetings, in-service days, retreats, and professional development.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills
-Willingness to witness to and support the Catholic identity, mission, and philosophy of Marin Catholic, including the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
-Practicing Catholic in good standing, preferred
-Bachelor's degree, or equivalent professional experience working with adolescents in a school, youth ministry, coaching, counseling, or comparable setting.
-Demonstrated experience supporting and mentoring adolescent young women in school, coaching, counseling, or ministry settings, preferred
-Prior experience in a high school student life office, extracurricular leadership role, or secondary school administration, preferred
-Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with students, parents, and colleagues.
-Sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
-Proficiency with Google Workspace and willingness to learn school information systems (MC Connect, attendance software, and similar).

Working at Marin Catholic
-This is a full-time exempt position scheduled for the school year calendar. (Summer, Christmas and Easter breaks.)
-Salary is $80,000-$90,000 commensurate with education and experience

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
-Occasional evening and weekend hours are required for school events, dances, retreats, and emergencies.
-The role requires the ability to move across campus throughout the day in varying weather, including stairs and outdoor areas, and to respond quickly to situations requiring presence or intervention.
-The role requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods.
-May be required to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
