Elementary School Teacher | Catholic Elementary School

Saint Leo Catholic School in beautiful Winston-Salem, NC is seeking a passionate, faith-filled elementary teacher who is excited to inspire students academically, spiritually, and personally in a supportive and collaborative environment.

We are looking for an educator who believes teaching is more than a profession - it is a vocation rooted in faith, service, compassion, and excellence.

The successful candidate will be a faith-filled, Christ-centered and mission-focused dynamic leader who holds a genuine commitment to Catholic education. Other important qualifications include:

A strong background in teaching in a school setting

A knowledgeable practitioner of a variety of educational teaching and learning styles and methods

The ability to create and grow a positive and collaborative working environment and a strong, vibrant Catholic educational culture

An ability to guide and support students and their families in a relationship of trust and collaboration

Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues and parents

Commitment to employing a positive, growth mindset to teaching

Education and qualifications should include the following:

Bachelor's degree required (Masters preferred)
North Carolina or Diocesan Teaching License required
5+ years of teaching experience preferred

Therefore, Catholic School employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with the teachings and precepts of the Catholic Church, promoting the welfare of the diocese and the school.

The primary responsibility of this position is teaching a self-contained classroom of diverse learners. Through regular conversations with their division, principal, and colleagues, St. Leo Catholic School teachers collaborate to ensure the highest level of Catholic education is provided to students. It is a hallmark of SLCS that teachers' work goes beyond the classroom and includes not only the academic preparation of the student, but
also the emotional, social, and spiritual development of students.

Additionally, teachers at SLCS are enthusiastic and energetic, innovative, and are supportive of new ideas.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences

Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities

Teaches skills and content of grade standards

Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development

Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities

Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs

Use relevant technology to support instruction

Provide appropriate and timely feedback

Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students

Prepare required reports on students and activities

Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing
appropriate rules and procedures

Perform certain pastoral duties including student support, counseling students with academic problems and providing student encouragement

Participate in co-curricular and extracurricular activities such as social events, sporting events, clubs, community service and other school community activities

Participate in department, school and parent meetings

Communicate regularly with parents, administration, and colleagues regarding student progress and needs

Keep updated with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities

Adhere to and support the mission of St. Leo Catholic Church and School

All teachers are also responsible for a variety of duties and tasks throughout the day; the principal will make these assignments and share them with faculty. These tasks and assignments adapt with the needs of the community
